Title: Good options for replacing a 27" CRT with an LCD?
Post by: Sarver Systems on July 08, 2014, 03:40:17 pm
I've got 4 racing games that I have a feeling the owner will want swapped over to LCDs.

Suggestions?

They are currently 27" CRT monitors.

lends to more question's
1=is there a vga output on the coumpter?
2=will it fit a 32" lcd.? reason for this question is most cab's that take a 27" crt will handle
with ease a 32" lcd
there is more
just need some more detail's

All good questions.

These LCDs would be used to replace the ailing monitors (posted here further down) in the Rush the Rock machines.

I'll have to check to see what outputs the boards have, and get some measurements.

Thanks for getting me off on the right foot.

ETA: The following attempt ended in failure. The Upscaler wouldn't output the full Med Res image no matter the settings for H size and H postition.

RTR is medium resolution. I have just gone through this for my Code 1 Dispatch U/R arcade. I decided to use this combination of components:

and this

BTW, I'm pretty sure that RTR won't fit a 32" LCD and the 28" Apple is a 16:10 which looks a little better if you choose not to maintain aspect ratio. I think the apple is really close to a 25" if you maintain aspect ratio.

The timer is the hack to turn on the TV when the machine boots up. This TV doesn't auto-power-on if it's like it's brother the basketball.

This attempt was an utter failure as I could never get the upscaler to output the full Medium Res Image. Oh, well, it was worth a try.

If you end up limited to a 28" the LG LN4500 series work really well. I have one in my multi-cab which has a PC and Blitz/Showtime board with Gonbes 8200, it works great when set to medium resolution.

The fact that these are lower resolution actually makes them look better with the older games vs using a 1080p native display. I actually used a high end 1200p display initially and the lower res LN4500 looks better.

I know a local guy that uses dual 26" models in his RtR sit downs and he loves them, says they are even better for those particular games than the crt's.

Best of luck,
Jason
