I found it at the fiance's relatives place just sitting in the corner.  Its a joyrider pro that is basically a steering wheel, a flight yoke, a motorcycle handle bar and a joystick all rolled into one unit.  here's an old review http://www.avault.com/hardware/getreview.asp?review=joyriderpro (http://www.avault.com/hardware/getreview.asp?review=joyriderpro)

would be a nice option if someone wanted to interface it to mame.  I'm going to see if I can use the steering wheel somehow--maybe a star wars yoke...;D
