Hi guys been building my cab and I have been trying to layout the controls. My goal was to have a 4 player cab that also had 4 sticks so player 1 and 2 could play smash tv together. But with 4 sticks and a track ball you are forced to make the panel really wide to accommodate the track ball and sticks. Attached is 1 layout for a 4 player, the second is a chopped down two player. I am user Andy's products so the UltraTrack, (Which is bulky) and ultrastiks.
Does anyone have suggestions on how I can place components to reduce the width or examples of cabs that have 4 players plus 2 for smash TV (6 stiks)? Thanks guys

Forgot to mention the 4 player fits at 48" and the 2 player is 35" I would love to fit the 4 player at 42". I think the only way would be if I staggered the joysticks alot.

You may want to move the trackball much closer to the player in order to prevent jammed fingers when somebody uses the "Superman" technique during a spirited game of Golden Tee.

lose the trackball, you dont need 6 sticks for smash TV, player 1 uses P1 and P2 sticks, player 2 uses P3 and P4 sticks. I hate to keep harping on it, but look at NBA Jam/NFL Blitz/NHL OpenIce CP for inspiration.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I am going to adjust the panel especially regarding the trackball.
I am also going to remove the 3rd and 4th player positions. I think I will make them either removable or just let players use the game pads for them.
Even though I have 3 kids so 4 player games will be often , I did a dry run this weekend with a test board and the width is just too large and I would have to make the cabinet deeper to set the monitor farther back. The 3rd and 4th players are at a poor angle to the CRT.
I will post some pics as I progress. I will also post the templates in printable size that I make for the art and panels if people are interest.

Just a thought, it looks like your 4 player option has 6 joysticks. I think if you drop that down to 4 joysticks you could slim it down to your desired length. As Malenko mentioned, you can map mame to allow for dual joystick games to use P3 and P4 joysticks.
