Well, it looks like the Barrel of Kong knock offs have reached Phoenix. Just noticed this on Craigslist today.

Been here a few months at least. They pop up from time to time.
-
Ah, first I'd seen it.
I'll go sit in the corner now.
-
I thought HaRuMaN was making and selling those? ???
-
I wanna know where he's getting the barrels from. I've wanted a few of those for years to have around my camp at the medieval events I participate in!
-
Sniff.... Sniff....
Smells like larper around here.
-
Larper? Not at all. Though it does get confused with LARP a lot. We're a lot more like the Civil War or Mountain Man groups. Society for Creative Anachronism (http://welcome.sca.org)
Been in it since I was about 10 years old.

Shh. I don't Rick to steal the idea. ;) :o

SCA meeting was the first time I ever walked into an orgy. Woulda been cooler had they all been hot chicks and I had been of age but I was 11 and it was a chub fest. Never went to another SCA event.

Oh god, Le Chuck... Sounds like you met the Morbid Deviants, or maybe a group of TuChucks.. Where was this, just out of curiosity? Unfortuantely, we do tend to attract some of the more "fringe" elements of society. But overall, it's a great organization. Like I said, I've been in for nearly 30 years. My kids have been raised in the society. Honor and Chivalry are cool things. Not to mention the sheer number of skills you pick up... Back when I played Everquest I used to complain a lot about the crafting systems since I KNEW how to smith, sew, cook, fletch, etc...
And the fighting. Yes, it's a romanticized system. Yes, we use sticks. It is, however, full speed and full contact. Nothing is cooler than walking out onto the field at a large event in your armor, clutching your sword. Looking across the field and seeing the opposing army of 500+ fighters and thinking, "They all want to kill me... Better kill them first!"
-
ahem... no comment slippy. ;)
Back on the barrel. It seems like that would be stupidly easy to make. You've got your barrel so the body is essentially done and because it's round, you can just buy a cheap glass table for the top.
-
I'd like to learn to fletch. I think all they were ready to teach was felching tho.
Twas in Parsons KS I think.
As for seeing a bunch of people that want to kill me and trying to kill them first, well, it takes all the fun out of it when they're literally trying to kill you rather than figuratively. Trust me.
That said I love paint ball so I'd probably love beating the willing with sticks.

We get a lot of military folks, actually. It's very different when the ones who are trying to kill you will most likely share a beer with ya later than night! Tell ya what though, I've gotten some of the most "interesting" bruises from my game. And by interesting I mean large, painful, purple, and black.
-
Still no barrel of kong with the DK logo on the side?

Yeah, I've found that since 30 has come and gone the time it takes my body to heal has really stretched. I can't be off getting bruises for fun when I have be fresh for PT each morning. Those runs take a toll man. Still, I think that jousting would be pretty sweet to try. Just saying.

I know right?! Seems really obvious, pretty easy with a router and bit of paint, and worth a few hundred on the upsell.

I've got a few computer monitors I'm trying to get rid of and I'm sure I have enough spare controls lying around.
You guys find me a source of barrels and I'll eventually give it a go.

Looks like you just missed these guys making a trip Charleston WV with some white oak whiskey barrels but might be able to arrange something -- http://charlestonwv.craigslist.org/grd/4499101153.html (http://charlestonwv.craigslist.org/grd/4499101153.html)

Well damn, I just missed that one didn't I.
I'll bet a person could get leaky barrels cheaper, which wouldn't matter for this application.

Thats true. But now people just use them for decorations I have found 2 so far at people's houses and nobody wants to sell. I even offered 100 dollars once.

Barrels are for sale all over the place near me. All the winery's have to get rid of them after they use them a few years. Come to Napa/Sonoma bring home some barrels. Mostly they just cut them in half for folks to use as planters.

Napa Valley or Lynchburg, TN
How come there aren't any where closer?

There are half a dozen wineries in the county where I live despite nobody outside the county having any interest in the wine from here.
They are mainly tourist traps.
If you look, I'm sure there are ones closer to you.
Also, the build in the original post looks top notch.
Not sure about the multi-board used, but they got the angles around the CPs cut right and attached the glass properly.
-
That is actually a pretty cool idea.. I am guessing that it has been done around here before, but for a newb like me I really dig it.. Thing is, it goes with another barrel idea I
had stole that I was planning for my game room.
I can't find my picture, but here is something from google image search for "wine barrel table" that is similar to what I want to do
(http://wineenthusiast.scene7.com/is/image/WineEnthusiast/f/n/w/465/17687.jpg)
And yes, when searching for a wine barrel I found plenty of places to get them from.. the problem is shipping.. there aren't any around here that I can find, and these things are HEAVY, so I was looking at anywhere from $175-$350 for a single barrel, depending on quality and condition.

Well it looks like a barrel of fun I'll tell you that. I know I shouldn't be monkeying around with the bad puns, but that's just how I roll.
I'm not sure I would even mount the glass.... I'd put those little rubber feet on it and be done with it.... A piece of glass that heavy shouldn't move around. The cps would take a bit of work, but I don't think it'd be that bad.... make the panels first then cut the hole.
