Title: Marquee Collectors: How do you mount em?
Post by: HeadRusch on December 08, 2003, 10:18:31 am
(Please, nobody say "doggystyle") ;)

Seriously, I was originally going to backlight them by building them into a shadowbox.

However, that would take more time and effort than I am currently ready to invest....so I'd just assume put them up on the wall as-is.

I was thinking about using little glass-clips, something like this...pretty unobtrousive...

But with all those screw holes (I figure 4 per marquee) perhaps I'd be smarter mounting them to 1/4" wood and mounting THAT to the wall ;)

Opinions?

Well you can mount them the same way mirrors are mounted, with those clips.

Otherwise make a HUGE shadow box and start filling it up with marquees :)

There are three main types of marquees too.  Vinyl, plexi, and glass.  The Thunder one on my cabinet is a vinyl one that I sandwiched inbetween plexi.

Most of the classics (pacman, frogger, etc...) are glass.

My double dragon II is plexi/lexan.

Then there's neogeo which are inserts.

Yeah, I have basically glass and Plexi...mostly glass.

My idea WAS actually to make a giant shadowbox with a flourescent fixture behind it, problem is, I didn't like the way it would look sticking out 6+ inches from the wall.

Then I thought 'ok, I'll light it with LED'S!"..and then I realized..."Maybe I'll not light em up at all for now.

I dont like those little mirror clips (the decorative ones you find at home depot)..the ones I listed seemed to be about as un-obtrusive as you can get......unless I get something like a "plate hanger"...but I think this is a more streamlined solution

well...I know you're looking for "easy" but these really need to be lit from behind. I built my own light box (and I have very little skills in carpentry) for a total cost of about $35.00 +/-.

Here's a pic......
