Title: Problems with 60 in 1 Arcade Classics Jamma Board
Post by: fatsgt on June 29, 2014, 12:19:04 am
I recieved a 60 in 1 board along with the purchase of a Dig Dug Machine. (Guy didn't realize it was pre-Jamma :)

Thought I would give it a try in my Tekken Tag cabinet.  The instructions didn't really go much into hooking it up. Figured I just set the dip switches and plug it into the Jamma harness.  When I plug it in all I get is a blank screen with some lines on it.  The green light comes on the board and stays lit.  There is also a yellow light that comes on for about a second when I first plug it in and then goes out after a second.  I tried it with the dip set to both CGA and VGA and got the same result.  Bad board or bad installer? :)

When I installed mine I had a couple moments like this.  I don't think I changed any settings, but after booting into test and playing around I stopped having monitor issues.  I believe it was Dip Switch 4.  Have you tried loading into the test menu (while also having the monitor dip switch to CGA)?

Yeah, I just tried again to make sure.  turned all dips off except #4 which is test mode.  I get a greenish tented screen with some lines running through it.

Make sure the dip switch actually works.  I had to solder a jumper wire on mine.

I vaguely remember having a similar issue a while back and it had something to do with the VGA CGA switch or something. But it now escapes me.
Are you sure that nothing's shorted, like maybe the service switch wire on the jamma harness or maybe a stuck coin switch.

Well, I tried it in two different cabs now.  My tekken and my Namco Candy Cab, could not get anything on the screen for either.  I may try to hook it up via VGA on my computer screen and try to troubleshoot it there.
Grrr.

Not sure how to check to see if my dip switches work?

Just tried it with my desktop computer monitor on VGA no source found.  I think it's a dead board.

How to access the TEST/Setup Menu on the XX-in-1 Multigame PCB
Article Number: 20 | Rating: Unrated | Last Updated: Mon, Feb 15, 2010 at 6:23 AM
This applies to ALL XX-in-1 Multigame JAMMA PCBs (19-in-1, 39-in-1, 48-in-1, & 60-in-1).

To access the TEST/Setup Mode, press and hold the cabinet TEST Switch in the ON position and then power on the board. Once the board begins to boot up in the TEST mode then release the TEST switch. If the cabinet TEST Switch is not installed or unavailable, set DIP SW 3 – BIT 4 on the XX-in-1 PCB to the ON position (This is the blue set of switches located on the PCB), then power up the board.

After any changes are made on the setup/settings page(s), press the PLAYER 1 START Button prior to leaving that page and going on to the next (or shutting off the board). When you do this you should see 'SAVED SETUP OK' message after the Player 1 START button is pushed.

Once all changes are made and properly saved, to exit simply power off the board. Set DIP SW 3 - BIT 4 back to the OFF position if used to access the TEST menu.

when u are done
there is a hard switch on the board
it switchs from cga to vga >PORT'S<

Did you try powering it up with just the molex connector and a VGA monitor?  (No Jamma harness connected)

Thanks for the instructions,  Just tried this again in my Tekken Tag Cabinet.  Inserted the Card in the Jamma Harness, held down the Cabinet test button, and powered on the cabinet.  I still get a greenish tented screen with lines going through it.  I tried this with the 4th dip switch on the board for "test" in both the on and off position with the same result, greenish screen.  I tried it leaving the 3rd dip switch on, still same result.

Yep, that's exactly what I did with dip switch #2 in the on position for VGA.  Nothing.  Either I'm really missing something or the board is bad. I'm hoping I'm just an idiot. :)

Check your voltages. The Tekken power supply might be shutting off due to lack of load or sending too much juice because those 60 in 1s barely draw any current.

Tested it in my exelenna cab as well.  Same result.  Think I'm gonna call it dead but thanks folks!

lol, well, maybe I'm just frustrated with it right now.  I'm pretty sure theres something wrong with the board.  I know PBJ suggested checking the dip switches and making some sort of jumper but I think that may be beyond my expertise.

plug a VGA monitor into it while its in the arcade cab, one of the 2 screens should show something.  There is a 60 second start up timer before the menu shows up. I *think* its dip 3 to switch between VGA and arcade but I dont recall right now.

Thanks but again, no dice. Ran around the house finding cables and such, plugged it into the Jamma and the external monitor, held down the test button in the Cab and nothing.  Also tried it several different ways with different Dip switch settings.  My manual says dig switch 2 is for CGA/VGA.

where do ya live? You could try it in someone elses machine. If you were local I'd let you try my board and test out yours. (Delaware)

Well, I've tried it in two cabs.  I have others I could try it in.  I mean, if it doesn't work in two cabs and dosen't work powered by the molex on a VGA monitor, I doubt its the cab or the voltage in the cab.It was sort of a gimme in a trade so I guess it's no big loss.   I could post some picts of the board if it would help.

you should totally post pix.  All the XXXXin1 boards Ive ever had always required power on the jamma edge even if it was to the molex. I even spliced the power on the hung donkey to feed both

EDIT: Changed X to XXXX to clarify that I had to supply power to both the JAMMA edge and the molex connectors on a 2100 in 1 board, which is PC based, and not a run of the mill 60 in 1

I don't know much about these things, but I did see a 412-in-1 board the other day that stated in required a slightly different JAMMA pinout. How they can claim it's a JAMMA board but uses a different pinout, I'm not sure. Anyway, are you able to find a pinout for your exact board?

+ 1.  I connected mine to a molex connector for power, VGA monitor on the D-sub connector and connected the Jamma connector only for the controls (no power).  Worked fine.

Some of the higher game count multicades use jamma pins that are normally ground to be button inputs instead.

ok
that is the same as a 39-1 board
i have the same thing here...
dip sw #2  cga or vga
there is 2 combo's to the jamma

i will pin then out for u ,if i cannot up-load the manual
dip switch #3 is the refernce here..it is the blue /red switch u see on the board
#2 controls it..

com 3 and 4 are for your trackball inputs
and yes com8 is a molex power feed,as has been said to u..
thk-u op's for that 1

j1 is your audio jack >speakers<

jamma is used for input control + power if u need ?

do not allow the power supply to run past 5.5 volt's dc feed..it will damage the board

let me find the maunual..i will up-load it

it is built by game never over

This is the online manual I referenced when I was hooking the game up: http://www.jammaboards.com/arcade_manuals/60-in-1_iCade_Classic_Arcade_Manual_Online.pdf (http://www.jammaboards.com/arcade_manuals/60-in-1_iCade_Classic_Arcade_Manual_Online.pdf)
I think it's the same 4 dip switches on the PCB for my board.

Not sure I understand your statement:"dip switch #3 is the refernce here..it is the blue /red switch u see on the board
#2 controls it.." or how it would help me get anything on the screen.

Thanks

on the board it is located as sw3
a 4 bank dip sw
where s/w 2 of that bank is your cga/vga control

Yep, there's only one set of dips on the board.  I've tried putting SW 2 in both the on and off postion (CGA/VGA) and I get nothing.
