Title: Monitors blowing fuse
Post by: madfrog2000 on June 25, 2014, 01:51:07 am
Hey I have a arcade unit with Commando game I bought the unit knowing the original monitor kept blowing a fuse (Monitor smoked up when I got the arcade home and plugged it in).
I pulled that monitor out and started up the game sound works coins work no fuses blowing. Now I have bought a RGB/CGA/EGA/YUV to VGA converter wired it up and plugged a computer screen in and is now blowing fuses again.
Hoping someone could give me some steps to solve this problem?

Thanks Madfrog

wwwwwwwhat fuse are we talking about???

you are going to have to take some pictures and show us what you got going on there.

maybe you just have a stray wire grounding out someplace. maybe the power supply is no good and surging when it powers on...maybe it needs to be re capped.  :dunno

the monitor is no good for sure. so at least that's out of the way.

Hey sorry here is a picture the fuses are on bottom left I have put a red square around them there is 4 of them only the one on the right blows.
Btw the fuse still blew when I installed a arcade to VGA converter and a computer screen that I know works.

The machine works fine with no screens attached at all.

Thanks for your help.

thats just an old linear power supply, there is no reason for that to blow a fuse and be monitor related-unless its all wired up incorrectly
the monitor should be running from an isolated transformer output at 120vac

how do you know its running perfectly without a display attached?

I am using my computer monitor which works fine on my pc. Which is running off its own power socket from the wall.when I unplug the monitor no fuses blow + sound workss when u add coins and press start button. Could something on the game pcb itself cause this problem?

the power supply inside the cabinet is isolated from mains power by that big transformer in the middle of the floor, by plugging in a monitor and powering it outside of the cabinet, you are forcing the power supply to ground through the monitor connection which is bad. This is why the fuse blows.

you need to plug your "outside" monitor inside the cabinet on the isolated side of the power connection.
