Title: Can anyone put a name to this grommet stick?
Post by: jimmer on June 20, 2014, 09:54:14 am
A lucky bonus that came with an eBay last year.

The switches have a plain front, on back they say:
Micro Switch
Freeport ILL, USA

The stick looks like a Suzo 500, but I'm not familiar enough with them to know what the base should look like.

Shmuppers like them for the extremely short throw.

Looks a bit like a Suzo 500, but lacks the swing arm restrictors and has the wrong mount hole pattern.

Also looks a bit like an MCA (https://www.arcadegamingaustralia.com.au/cms/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=92&category_id=1&option=com_phpshop&Itemid=5) (Australian stick) but has the wrong mount hole pattern and a different actuator. (2nd pic, lower left)

Looked at the pics on Kowal's site here (http://www.kowal.itcom.pl/ArcadeParts_pliki/eapJOY.htm) but no luck yet.   :dunno

The part of the body where the switches go on the Suzo appear to be the same orientation as the mounting where the one the op pictured is diagonal to it.
I know coin controls made sticks that look similar. Data East cabinets used them. I don't remember them having rubber centering grommets or square actuators but the actuator could have been swapped.

Kowal has pics of several Coin Controls sticks -- none of them looked right, either.   :dunno

The way the base is angled is just weird.  It's not even 45 degrees.
Do the switches actually sit at the same angle, or are they in the same orientation as the main joystick mounting plate?

If at an angle, it would almost have to be designed for a specific cabinet.
Virtua Fighter had the joysticks at weird angles, but none of the pictures I found look like those joysticks.

That grommet looks old school.

+1 on this being an unusual stick.
We need more :pics  to narrow it down.   ;D

it's dark now, so all I can do is give you higher res.
I should have said it's not on kowal's site, save you the trouble of checking.

It's basically one of these but with a suzo style dome on the top housing, and suao style lever.

Does the centering grommet actually go to this stick because that looks like a wico grommet. But the stick may be a cheap chinese knock off

I have a pair of MCAs. Those aren't them.

The underside of the mountingplate and the grommett look like wico. Maybe just a no name knock off

hmmm

There was a UK company Euromax Ltd. Selling Suzo sticks but often branded as euromax and not showing the suzo name in adverts.
This one has Suzo name  http://www.worldofspectrum.org/showmag.cgi?mag=C+VG/Issue037/Pages/CVG03700188.jpg (http://www.worldofspectrum.org/showmag.cgi?mag=C+VG/Issue037/Pages/CVG03700188.jpg)

Wico made a euro styled version, called Euromax.
