Title: Lost Boys Bartop - looking for art ideas
Post by: Slippyblade on June 19, 2014, 08:35:12 pm
So, new project.  My oldest kid is moving out and has requested a bartop as a house warming gift.  He fell in love with the NeoGeo bartop I built and has been bitten by the arcade bug.  This makes me very happy.  :D  Anyway, after chatting about themes he's decided he REALLY wants it to be Peter Pan and the Lost Boys themed.

Here's the problem, if you've seen any of my threads in regards to "art" you know that I suck at it.  Badly.  So now I'm farming for art ideas.  General thoughts, even composition suggestions are all welcome.  No, I'm not asking anybody to hand me print ready art.  I just have zero thoughts on where to go with it.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

D'oh!  He also likes Street Fighter, so the design I'm (borrowing/stealing/using) is going to be LeapinLew's Widowmaker (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,65651.0.html)

Awesome!

The only thing I would recommend is narrowing the base as much as possible - instead of 24" see if you can squeeze everything into a 20" CP. I'd also consider building a matching table with storage or something. One of the biggest issues with the Widowmaker is it's large footprint.

The only other thing you may want to think out is how you would want to secure the CP. I didn't love using the clamps where I did and if you narrowed the CP, you may not have enough space.

Good luck dude and have fun. I can't imagine having a kid out of the house already. I had kids late in life, so I'm just getting started.

Thanks for the blessing on using your design, I appreciate it.

I'm super excited about it actually.  I mean, there's the normal feelings of, "My baby is all grown up..." but there's upsides as well.  I'm turning his bedroom into a new man cave!  My wife has had her project/sewing room for a couple years now, so it feels real nice getting my own space finally.

You should do a Lost Boys mashup and make all Peter's crew be horrible vampires.

No kidding. When I read the title, the first thing I thought of was that movie...

Wait a minute, this ISN'T going to be a Corey Feldman based bartop? If that's the case, I regret to inform you that if any of my trademark/copyright design elements from Widowmaker are infringed a lawsuit will be inevitable.

 ;)

Funny that you guys should mention that.  The vampire Lost Boys was my original thought.  When I mentioned it to my kid, his response was "That's great!  We can put Tinkerbell and Peter Pan on it too!"  I mentally stuttered a minute till it clicked, 18 year old son had never seen "The Lost Boys" movie.  I was flabbergasted.  So, my brain shifted gears from Santa Carla, vampires, and Corey Feldman to Neverland, kids in pajamas, and Tinkerbell.  One hell of a gear grind.

You have to have to have to do a mashup. Left side vamps right side Ruffio, Tonks, toodles, and who knows else.

On the marquee have Peter Pan fighting David.
