Title: Is an LCD good enough?
Post by: Bdubbs on June 19, 2014, 10:49:26 am
Hello everyone, I am starting to build my first cab.  It is going to be a 4 person unit custom built into wall unit in my entertainment room.

Question is I have a 30" 720p LCD monitor is that fine or should I purchase a Sony Trinitron Television and run component cables to it?

I am planning to run most games from the 90's Turtles in time, Street Fighter.

Since I am building this into custom furniture I would like to get it right the first time.

As long as you have the PC already, you should just try it and find out.

Thanks Eric, I have been using the LCD and I haven't had an issue with it. Though on some games the aspect ratio can be a bummer. I may just pick up a TV since they aren't expensive and see if it is much better. The only expense would be a video card with component out.

I'd say that answer would depend on what you want to do with it. If it's MAME, resolution really isn't a problem.  My Ms. Pacman I would never put an LCD in.. It would be defeating the purpose of having this machine.. In my NFS underground it would be an upgrade which resolution can actually be upped for this LCD.. I have two hydro thunders linked, one monitor with flyback issues, I ran a 46" LCD  in it and was able to adjust the resolution to look better than the mid res. CRT. Even at same res. 46" actually looked pretty good and had much better color.. Took going into PC mode and playing with drivers and adjust res. But did work.. Good luck with your project..
