Hi There, a newbie here!
I am just starting with all this arcade stuff, and I have decided to first buy a full game of Galaga instead of trying to undertake a buildup with no experience. After I get that game, and understand all aspects, like cabling control etc, I will them make my own.
Ive seen a Full game of Galaga in Arcadeshop.com and also in Mikesarcade.com. Booth seem to have the same, New Cabinet, new Monitor, new harness etc. But one is almost $600 more expensive. Anybody cares to recommend why this is and which one would be a better option?
Both machines can be found here:
1. http://arcadeshop.com/games.htm (http://arcadeshop.com/games.htm) $1895
2. https://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=GALAGAUR (https://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=GALAGAUR) $2495
Thanks in advance for your answers!

Both state that they include original midway/galaga boards. The one in arcadeshop is the fourth one which is upright. Maybe I am missing something?

One's in Utah the other in Georgia -- so what is the shipping charges to get them to Seattle and does that make the pricing closer or even further apart ?? (ie. does one pad the shipping charges more than the other so they can advertise a lower price but wind up about the same delivered )
HAve you checked the local Craigslist to see if there are any used ones available - might be able to save $1000 or more toward your eventual build by getting a used one in good shape.

in there ad
1 clearly states none orignal game board

I think you are reading the third game, not the fourth.

But seriously, if you want all brand new cabinet parts, you're going to pay that premium. Like others have suggested, I'd try hitting Craigslist and seeing what you might be able to find. If you don't mind patina, you can get something for a LOT cheaper.

I got my first Galaga for $300 , my second for $75. There were far from being "like new" , well until I was done with them. Restoring them is half the fun.

Agreed.

Agree that building my own is much fun, but as I would like for my first game to be already done and learn from there. Thanks again for all your input.

For that kind of money, you can probably land a reunion cab.

True, but I dont know why I prefer single game cabinets.....

I could not justify $1900 for *just* Galaga and its my all time favorite game ever.
-
It would be so fun to poo on the actual value of these games vs. what there worth, But all things considered they sold for around 3k new (I believe) back then when a dollar was worth a dollar, So today restored It would be a comparable value. If not even a "good" deal.... You more than likely wont ever be able to ever get your money back however, The average collector will only go about half that asking price.

So I just saw a galaga for 1380 +300 Shipping from arcadesmarket.com They mentioned that the unit comes with a new galaga pcb and I told them if I could get an original pcb, they said yes... Maybe I will go with this to start.

What do you mean?

He means if you're willing to pay $1700, you can probably find someone who will sell you one for a bit less but still make a profit.
-
What do you mean?
I mean youre willing to spend such a retarded amount of money that my buddy could sell you his perfectly restored cab, and make enough money in profit to buy another Galaga, and have it restored and still have money left over.

such a retarded amount of money
;)
Ok will send him a PM...

To OP:
I think the price difference might be due to location and shipping arrangements. Consider making a post here in the B/S/T subforum. Alternatively, if you are looking to buy, KLOV might be a better place to inquire. You might find someone local.

I know right ???.... If Sweetie had a Galaga, She would have been ALL over that.

Everyone I ever meet out in real life willing to drop $1000 on a game always wants a Galaga and that is one of the very short list of common classics I have never owned. Of course Ms. Pac is just as frustrating, when I have one I can't seem to get rid of it for anything, but that is what everyone wants when I don't have one.

Ok, I finally got one. After I see how everything works I will be more comfortable building my own. Thanks to all for your input.
