Title: MALA without MAME
Post by: Le Chuck on June 14, 2014, 12:21:52 pm
I consider myself an old hand with MALA and can pretty much bend it to my will - as long as my will is well within MALA's numerous limitations lol.

I'm using MALA for my HTPC - I know, there are tons of other HTPC options out there, but I like MALA for it's simplicity.  I even have several couch games all set up in a dedicated "games" menu.  Only problem is that I still have the Mame menu in the mix, so when I'm cycling through emulators (movie genres really) I still hit that menu.  MAME is such an integral part of MALA it seems, anybody now how to disable, hide, whatever MAME from MALA menus?

I think it would be interesting to disable it but Loadman told me this (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=103292.0).
Greetings!

Nope.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up lol.  What I haven't tried but thought of while I was running this morning was just renaming mame and pointing MALA at my media player and using mame as just another genre list.  MALA doesn't actually check that mame is mame does it?  Should take whatever executable I tell it is mame and use it.  I'll report back.

Heh, that whole point mame at something else bright idea I had doesn't work.  Just made a one entry game list and named it something generic.  Oh well.

I think it would work, but you'd have to make a custom xml and dummy rom files to generate the gamelist:
Maybe just add one dummy entry to the xml, then add that to a different gamelist and hide the all games list.
You might be able to modify the gamelist manually by converting it to a text file with mlgconverter from this thread:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,101104.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,101104.0.html)

Keep in mind the variables that Mala is passing to whatever batch file you are using.
(see the multiple emus in one list workaround thread)

You might try putting a shortcut in the same directory as MAME, then pointing Mala at it.
That way, all the other files Mala might look for are there.
