Title: Act Labs Gun and ArcadeVGA (w CRT MultiSync) - Anyone Have this Config?
Post by: EddieArcadian on June 08, 2014, 11:24:23 am
Hello,
I have an ArcadeVGA graphics card that allows me to display native arcarde resolutions on my old school 27" NEC Multisync Monitor.  I'm looking to put two Act Labs guns (the old silver pistol style) into this setup - they connect through the VGA cable and also have a usb.

I am concerned about maintaining the functionality of the ArcadeVGA card... from what I understand, if I don't hookup the Act Labs guns in a special way, I will potentially lose the native resolution ability of the ArcadeVGA card.

Here is what it says on Ultimarc's website:
The Act-Labs USB gun works but there are some factors to bear in mind. The gun will only work if the H and V sync are not connected together. The H and V signals must both be connected to the monitor. OR, if a J-PAC is used for the connection, this will also work. Our own AimTrak gun is independent of the monitor and will work.

So it appears I need to get some sort of breakout cables to isolate the Horizontal (H) and Vertical (V) signals (two pins I imagine) and seperate them, and move them around the Act Labs VGA box and get them straight into the monitor... while all the other signals should be sent through the Act Labs box and then into the monitor.

I asked Andy for more details, and here's what he said:
The signals cant be combined, as stated, the H and V sync must run both separately to the monitor. Then, there should not be any issues.

Does anyone have this setup?  Can anyone tell me if there are cables on the market that would allow me to split off the H and V signals?  Is there some sort of a VGA splitter?  My monitor allows me to use either straight up VGA or the BNC connections, so that helps.

Thanks!
Eddie

Maybe VGA to BNC adapater coming from the computer... then another adapter BNC to VGA to connect to Act Labs box, leaving the H and V signals out and left on that BNC... then another VGA to BNC adapter coming out of the Act Labs box, and connect those to the Monitor and my H and V to the monitor too.

Whew.  Probably $100 in adapters for both guns.

Does anyone have an ArcadeVGA with Act Labs guns? How did you do it?

I've done it, on dual monitors too. I made my own breakout cables in the past, it was easy to do. But I switched to this breakout board for cleaner wiring:
