Had this cab for a while, decided to get it up and running. This isnt my typical "strip it to the studs" restore I usually do. Removing all the black paint off the MK4 and being in the process of stripping the black paint off my MK1........and I'm not really up for stripping the sides off this bad dudes. Truth be told, the sides are in really great shape for a 26 year old cab, but the generic "Data East" art is in pretty bad shape. I think it kinda gives the cab character, but I forgot to take a picture of it.
So here is pretty much how I got the cab. I never noticed the broken marquee when the seller sent me pictures. What they did was.......someone drew a dust cloud on a piece of paper. They cut that out, then taped it to the marquee, then riveted another piece of plexiglass to the marquee. There was NO saving the original marquee, but I was lucky enough to get one for $34 shipped ($20 + shipping) from Mylstar over on klov.com

Impossible to tell, but the sticks didnt work, easier to see is 2 of the buttons were the wrong colors:

HUGE thank you to Mylstar (KLOV) for the marquee, stu33 (BYOAC) for the replacement buttons, and an even bigger thank you to happyfunball (BYOAC) for the replacement sticks. Can't wait to let my nephews have a go at this game.

Yeah, that was a pretty good repair idea. Hahaha!

well, if your bad dudes board ever dies. I have one just laying around too. I swapped it for a neo geo 2 slot.

how much? I noticed I need to buy PCB feet, cause the previous owner duct taped the board to the inside of the cab. Seriously. Duct Tape.

Looks great. This is one of my favorite cabinets.
I agree the "repair" job was pretty clever. I wouldn't have noticed it at first had you not pointed it out. That being said the new one looks much better.

It's a fun game. I always enjoyed it. :dunno

Who the hell buys PCB feet? Steal a Bic pen from work and cut the tube up.
One and only negative feedback I got on eBay was from some idiot that bought my Bad Dudes board and couldn't get the sound working. My recollection was that it was one of those games that needed -5VDC. Oh well, I paid ~$20, he paid $40.
;D

Your Bad Dudes is awesome..........I wish mine were original.... but I'm happy with mine & how it came to be. :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:
I talk to buddies in the hobby who have so many fond memories of arcades.
Myself I have very few to be honest. To tell the truth I mostly wanted an arcade in
my house because I saw it on the show "Silver Spoons" when I was a kid.
When I got older and got my house that dream did not die.
Bad Dudes, Narc and Street Fighter II were titles that stand out to me, I recall
pumping many quarters into these games.
I actually did a small bulk buy about 3 years ago (4 cabinets). One of them had a Bad Dudes marquee on it, no monitor, and the board inside. The guy wanted $50!!!!
He had no clue this was on of my all time favorite games (despite many saying it is a Double Dragon rip off!) !!!!
The cabinet sat for quite some time and I finally began the prep on it. Oddly I had no real intent to make it into a Bad Dudes or even test the board for that matter. For what
reason I can not say really. Anyway, once the cabinet was all cleaned up, painted (yellow), and wired jamma I decided to test the board........it worked ! Mind you at first when you pressed the attack button it would do an attack/jump combo. I wired up the -5 and now all is good. It's a nice clean cabinet with red ball top joysticks, red buttons, plain black CPO, bright yellow paint and red t-molding. Awesome game !
*** sorry to take away from your thread....I just got inspired ! *** :embarassed:
-
alll good bro, these threads are meant to inspire. happyfurball has bad dudes board for sale, hit him up!
-
My board is actually working now, I think it could have been the -5 ?
That or honestly a crappy harness from China now that I think about it.
I had the board in my Popeye cabinet (with a VS layout control panel) and that is when I noticed the issue.
Oddly my WWF Superstars was fine.
The same Popeye machine gave me issues with a 138-in-1 board that I now have.
So I think it was the crap harness from China as noted.
None the less working and loving it !
Now I just need to rewire my Popeye and toss my 138 in 1 ! I need to find inspiration to finish that project ! LOL
(and wire my Aim Trak units into my GunGon2's)...................... Lazy + new dad = bad combo dude !
EDIT - Actually Malenko you posted in my Bad Dudes thread art.
I'm getting a bartop of Rick and going to do it as a Punch-Out inspired unit.
I figured when I need to order art why not pay 1 shipping and just get some art
for my Final Fight & Bad Dudes. But if it were upto my I'd like something custom
for Bad Dudes (not the Data East logos)....so I was trying to source out some files.
I havet got around to trying my luck....but I'll get something done up soon.
I'm not any good with Illustrator, so I'll just take the images (parts) I need into Photoshop
& try to bang out something fitting.

Nice fix!
I always liked the curved Marquee of the DE cabs. I'm pretty sure next scratch build I do will have the marquee curve like that. Great way to fit more art in the same amount of usable space.
-
Hell, it's been 25 years since I've seen a Bad Dudes cabinet and that was probably a conversion anyways, but how many other cabs had buttons for both left and right handed players? That's a pretty unique feature that I don't remember seeing before.
-
Well, it was common for any rotary game, like Ikari warriors.
-
I'm disappointed that you made the buttons match!
Just playing, great work.
-
So, the mace/ball and chain was censored by a grey cloud, but Freddy Kruger gloves are A-OK! Weird part of history.
If you were going for a custom marquee you could have added this:
"You are bad dude, but this does not mean you are *bad* dude."
-
not censored, the cloud covered up the missing part of the marque, a big chunk was missing.
-
so minor update, I replaced the bulbs in the marquee with CF bulbs. Also I have beaten the game, multiple times, and Im getting to the point where I dont die till the 4th stage and dont continue till the train stage, weut!

The boss with the Bo filled me with much rage back in the day.
