First!
good day.

Hey, those TMNT sheets rock ;D
-
He custom-built a four-player panel board that houses thousands of games, from Street Fighter II to Michael Jackson's Moonwalker.
Don't believe everything you read.

Frankly, this should have been a warning sign to that fiance....

Dude, it's 2014. No need to pretend anymore, we'll accept you.

eh, he probably paid someone to decorate for him.
I'm sure they convinced him it was impressive.
EDIT: It's actually not bad if you take away the rug and the hotel lamps....and maybe the knick knacks on top the dresser.
Full discloser: my place is not as nice. I'm reluctant to sink much time or money into a rental house.
-
What kinda of half baked journalism is this? No mention of his Carpet?
-
THought the setup looked familiar ( http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,135635.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,135635.0.html) ) Guess he couldn't get enough attention here so had to go elsewhere for it. :dunno
And with the attitude he showed here I doubt going with the video games over the Fiancee was his choice !!
-
Did the New York Daily News just call this guy a loser in not-so-many words? ("He's not a loser... but he sleeps alone with TMNT bedsheets.")
-
Another poorly written piece of garbage. http://www.wired.com/2014/05/arcadia/?mbid=social_fb (http://www.wired.com/2014/05/arcadia/?mbid=social_fb)

I thought the wired article was at least a bit more "cutting" than the NY times.
Oh, he also made it on Time Magazine's blog.

Seems a spot on assessment to me. This guy is in Marketing and PR...planting his ass all over the media was obviously intentional.
-
I hear if you go in your gameroom, turn off the lights and say his name three times, Wreck-It Ralph appears to you.

And you dont even have to finish paying for it!

"His online friendships were souring, too. On KLOV, the haters outnumbered the supporters. They were certainly more vehement anyway. Some people hated his carpet. Some hated that he seemed to love Disney’s Fix-It Felix more than he loved actual ’80s arcade games. Some really hated that he paid $3,000 for an arcade-machine emulator pedestal. They made fun of him for overspending to restore his vintage Punch-Out!! cabinet. In fact, a lot of people just seemed to be ticked off that this stranger was essentially buying his way into their close-knit circle of longtime hobbyists. "
Yeah, try to remember that next time a newbie shows up, you BYOAC dickbags. I mean KLOV dickbags.

Heh.
I don't care how much he paid for stuff. I don't care how much he loves FiFJr. I don't care that he "bought his way" into the hobby. No one I know is jealous of any of his items, possessions, or lifestyle (no matter how much this gets thrown out as a defense of his). I do know, however, that my first impression of him was based on the way he acted like a complete :tool: when he ASKED FOR OPINIONS and got some that didn't jibe with his own.
A guy on KLOV posted this, and I agree with the assessment:
Narcissistic personality disorder is characterized by dramatic, emotional behavior, which is in the same category as antisocial and borderline personality disorders.
Narcissistic personality disorder symptoms may include:
Believing that you're better than others
Fantasizing about power, success and attractiveness
Exaggerating your achievements or talents
Expecting constant praise and admiration
Believing that you're special and acting accordingly
Failing to recognize other people's emotions and feelings
Expecting others to go along with your ideas and plans
Taking advantage of others
Expressing disdain for those you feel are inferior
Being jealous of others
Believing that others are jealous of you
Trouble keeping healthy relationships
Setting unrealistic goals
Being easily hurt and rejected
Having a fragile self-esteem
Appearing as tough-minded or unemotional

He'll be lead article on Kotaku tomorrow. Probably hit front page of Reddit soon. He got all of us all hot and lathered.
Had to laugh he was behind those free Dr. Pepper's. I did enjoy that free soda more than I did Chinese Democracy.
I give him an A+ as a marketer.

Exactly.
-
yeah I saw the article on Kotaku yesterday and really liked what he did with the game room....then saw the Street Fighter pedastal and was like.....wait a sec...I recognize that.
I went through and re-read the original thread (thanks to JDFan for digging it up and posting it), and I honestly do like all that he did. yeah he may have acted like a tool and paid WAY too much for a lot of his stuff, but the end result for the arcade itself I think is pretty sweet. Sucks he doesn't have a bedroom to actually sleep in right now. But...life is like a box of chocolates. You know...the ones that give you diarrhea.
-
FTFY
I can't believe he is whining about losing his fiance. He obviously doesn't understand how good he has it now. SIGH - everybody wants what they don't have. I don't really care about his games/whatever.
-
Marketing stunt. Don't believe a word of it.

Marketing stunt. Don't believe a word of it.
I'm starting to believe that it's 50% marketing stunt, %50 "See, baby, my life is miserable without you".
-
My comment about him not realizing how good he has it is coming from a long-time married man whose wife hates games and anything to do with them. We get along OK, otherwise. Yeah, his whole life is PR. He's good at it. I wonder if he expected the backlash, though.
-
The title of my article: "Man utilizes reading and comprehension skills and builds himself 6 arcade games".
Also... I F'ing hate --bags of cream-filled twinkies-- that wear jeans and flip flops. There is something inside me that wants to give a flying elbow across the face when I see a tool dressed like that.
good day.
-
I love that Axle Rose's first question to him was " are you Kaneda?"
Enjoy those tmnt sheets my friend
-
I'm just glad he took the advice given on the forum , she would have left sooner if he didn't fix the joystick issue .............. We gave him an extra few weeks wife the love of his life :dunno

Oddly enough... it's usually the fat cow that decide Daisy Dukes and flip flops go together....which makes sense because only a --cream-filled twinkie-- would go up there... :puke
Stop.... please....

Or a gf to be in either. :laugh2:

-
Just noticed he took all of his "arcade" tour videos down. Not sure when that happened.
I did find this quote ironic:
In a cruel twist of fate, the day after it arrived I had to leave for 10 days to be with my fiancé for the holidays.
Now he has plenty of time.
-
Well, he got six women on that thing. So I guess I was wrong on the "you will never have four players, ever" prediction.

From the article:
“Arcades are a gateway drug for a pinball collection,” he says matter-of-factly, as if this had been the plan all along.
I'm looking at my custom title on here and just going, "Hmmmmmm..."
-
Kaneda's got comments on Kotaku!

I was thinking that too. Doubt it was coincidence.

Oh please. :lol

That's what you get for being on Facebook. :P
-
I was tagged by a bunch of folks in comments on that guy's stories too. :P
-
Anyone who shares that link with me gets the true story.
-
The only thing that bugged me about it is that people saw the $20k figure and compared it to my gameroom. Yeah, I have more games than he does, but no I didn't spend anything like $20k.
-
His plan is working. . .
if you add them all up, he got a solid 10 to play on his cab.
-
Paige pointed out on KLOV that he said in the article that he was eating a raw vegan diet to stay close to his ex, but look at what's in his mouth....
-
That's probably good news that he was lying. The vegan comments by made him sound a bit like a panty sniffing creeper anyway.
-
This is the guy who works on Wall Street, makes couple hundy grand a year, posted the photo of a sports car that was/wasn't his and didn't have time to build? I'd rather read a Wall of Text (tm) from X2....
This story is on the Chive today but I didn't look at it.
-

At least one is married.
Also... hot chicks who actually play video games who aren't attached who are of legal age is an extremely rare commodity.
You can figure it out.
-
Savannah sure is racist against gingers.
Take whatever you can get.

I disagree, not a single one of these girls is a 5 or greater. I also doubt a single girl on this planet who's a 5 or greater would be caught dead falling for the line: "She didn't like the feel of these Ninja Turtle sheets, what do you think?..."

-
Hey Ladies,
How about four player Simpsons and some pizza and beer.

I'm guessing they're employees who work in his marketing firm. "Party at the VP's - Attendance Mandatory!"
I'm thinking interns. Not even real employees.

$32,000 on an arcade and all he has for them is Light Beer?!
-
Sure are a whole lot of men on BYOAC with sophisticated tastes and lots of money that only deign to associate with the finest of super models.
May the rest of us plebeians be ever grateful for your presence.
:tool:
-
my fiancee is a solid 7.5 , which is better than a ginger is supposed to be able to get. However I lack sophisticated tastes and lots of money :(
-
7.5 wow go you !! The key to an arcade is to have it in a part of the house that the wife doesn't visit , my basement has a bar and lots of machines but more importantly .......... A ton of spiders !!!!
-

Don't you mean ex fiancée? (Pro Tip: when posting publically your girl is always a 10)

Meh, she doesnt need her ego stroked and I dont need PBJ offering me $20 in hand for pix of her.
-
Hopefully he puts the 20$ in the OTHER hand before offering it.
-
I'm also hitting WAY above my weight class for being a Ginger. And she works at the head office of the largest Craft Brewery in Canada. So I definitely lucked out.
Untill she gets her senses of sight and hearing back that is...
-
Being a Daywalker myself, I must admit, I'm a bit of a gingerphile (of the female variety). 8)
-
This thread has a bad case of......gingervitis
-
Yes, and we plan on coming for each and every one of you "Normals" while you sleep.

.
-
I married one. My daughter is one. My life is not my own. Beware.
-
Another ginger chiming in.
First, lets take it easy on the ladies - theyre just innocent bystanders.
Second, did anyone else notice his high score board? Beat a high score, win $100.
If i was any closer, I'd want to test out his stuff. ; )

Guys, can we get back on topic, please?

of video games.
Or at least:

I like "Woman sees the light, dumps D-Bag" best.

good day.

I take it you saw his white flip flops.
-
Here's the thing - we have a vested "interest" in the story because it's video games. But you know with his personality, he was going to latch on to something and obsess over it - if it wasn't video games, it would have been cars... or toys... or cake with Axel Rose.

Not having a new album for years has been easier to tolerate than seeing Danzig get bet down. That was disappointing.

A year ago, Kaneda didn't even think about arcade machines. It was all go-bots, or whatever he collected. I got a buddy like him. Drops tons of cash on what he is obsesses with currently, gorges himself on getting top of the line stuff to show off, then gets sick of it a year later and often sheds it completely.

Yep. I can't believe "Ready Player One" was the catalyst, either. What would he have purchased if he had actually read a GREAT book?
-
So what you're saying is if he had read a GREAT book he would have been building MAME cabs instead?

With as much money as he has to dump, he shoulda read "Around the world in 80 days"

This statement sums him up to a tee

The guy is just so far out that I don't really feel like analyzing him too much. Let's talk about his transformer (are they gobots?) collection. The least he could do is realize that the americanized versions of those toys aren't as good as the originals or even some of the variants:
http://www.toyboxdx.com/ (http://www.toyboxdx.com/)
and he should understand that the nakajima is the best:
http://www.toyboxdx.com/datafiles/data/nakajima/ (http://www.toyboxdx.com/datafiles/data/nakajima/)
If you are interested in something, take it all the way, and do it on the cheap. It may take years, but the hunt is more fun than the kill. Just buying it is no fun...

Some people take all their pride from ownership and the affirmation of others in regard to their ownership. They have no desire to do work.

Agreed. This is it exactly.
Time to move along.
