eh, he probably paid someone to decorate for him.
I'm sure they convinced him it was impressive.

EDIT: It's actually not bad if you take away the rug and the hotel lamps....and maybe the knick knacks on top the dresser.

Full discloser: my place is not as nice.  I'm reluctant to sink much time or money into a rental house.

THought the setup looked familiar ( http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,135635.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,135635.0.html) ) Guess he couldn't get enough attention here so had to go elsewhere for it. :dunno

And with the attitude he showed here I doubt going with the video games over the Fiancee was his choice !!

Oh, he also made it on Time Magazine's blog.

"His online friendships were souring, too. On KLOV, the haters outnumbered the supporters. They were certainly more vehement anyway. Some people hated his carpet. Some hated that he seemed to love Disney’s Fix-It Felix more than he loved actual ’80s arcade games. Some really hated that he paid $3,000 for an arcade-machine emulator pedestal. They made fun of him for overspending to restore his vintage Punch-Out!! cabinet. In fact, a lot of people just seemed to be ticked off that this stranger was essentially buying his way into their close-knit circle of longtime hobbyists. "

Yeah, try to remember that next time a newbie shows up, you BYOAC dickbags.  I mean KLOV dickbags.

Heh.

I don't care how much he paid for stuff. I don't care how much he loves FiFJr. I don't care that he "bought his way" into the hobby. No one I know is jealous of any of his items, possessions, or lifestyle (no matter how much this gets thrown out as a defense of his). I do know, however, that my first impression of him was based on the way he acted like a complete  :tool: when he ASKED FOR OPINIONS and got some that didn't jibe with his own.

A guy on KLOV posted this, and I agree with the assessment:

Quote
Narcissistic personality disorder is characterized by dramatic, emotional behavior, which is in the same category as antisocial and borderline personality disorders.

Narcissistic personality disorder symptoms may include:

Believing that you're better than others
Fantasizing about power, success and attractiveness
Exaggerating your achievements or talents
Expecting constant praise and admiration
Believing that you're special and acting accordingly
Failing to recognize other people's emotions and feelings
Expecting others to go along with your ideas and plans
Taking advantage of others
Expressing disdain for those you feel are inferior
Being jealous of others
Believing that others are jealous of you
Trouble keeping healthy relationships
Setting unrealistic goals
Being easily hurt and rejected
Having a fragile self-esteem
Appearing as tough-minded or unemotional

He'll be lead article on Kotaku tomorrow.  Probably hit front page of Reddit soon.  He got all of us all hot and lathered.

Had to laugh he was behind those free Dr. Pepper's.  I did enjoy that free soda more than I did Chinese Democracy.

I give him an A+ as a marketer.

yeah I saw the article on Kotaku yesterday and really liked what he did with the game room....then saw the Street Fighter pedastal and was like.....wait a sec...I recognize that.

I went through and re-read the original thread (thanks to JDFan for digging it up and posting it), and I honestly do like all that he did. yeah he may have acted like a tool and paid WAY too much for a lot of his stuff, but the end result for the arcade itself I think is pretty sweet. Sucks he doesn't have a bedroom to actually sleep in right now. But...life is like a box of chocolates. You know...the ones that give you diarrhea.

My comment about him not realizing how good he has it is coming from a long-time married man whose wife hates games and anything to do with them.  We get along OK, otherwise.  Yeah, his whole life is PR.  He's good at it.  I wonder if he expected the backlash, though.

Just noticed he took all of his "arcade" tour videos down. Not sure when that happened.

I did find this quote ironic:

Quote from: kaneda
In a cruel twist of fate, the day after it arrived I had to leave for 10 days to be with my fiancé for the holidays.

Now he has plenty of time.

Man, I was sick of seeing photos of that ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- back in November. I can only imagine how Joe Q. Public must feel now.

Misleading title is misleading.

Quote

Should read:
Man chooses love

of video games.

Or at least:
Moves like Pac Man: Man dodges early divorce

Here's the thing - we have a vested "interest" in the story because it's video games. But you know with his personality, he was going to latch on to something and obsess over it - if it wasn't video games, it would have been cars... or toys... or cake with Axel Rose.

Not having a new album for years has been easier to tolerate than seeing Danzig get bet down.  That was disappointing.

A year ago, Kaneda didn't even think about arcade machines. It was all go-bots, or whatever he collected. I got a buddy like him. Drops tons of cash on what he is obsesses with currently, gorges himself on getting top of the line stuff to show off, then gets sick of it a year later and often sheds it completely.

Yep. I can't believe "Ready Player One" was the catalyst, either. What would he have purchased if he had actually read a GREAT book?

So what you're saying is if he had read a GREAT book he would have been building MAME cabs instead?

This statement sums him up to a tee

The guy is just so far out that I don't really feel like analyzing him too much.  Let's talk about his transformer (are they gobots?) collection.  The least he could do is realize that the americanized versions of those toys aren't as good as the originals or even some of the variants:
http://www.toyboxdx.com/ (http://www.toyboxdx.com/)
and he should understand that the nakajima is the best:

If you are interested in something, take it all the way, and do it on the cheap.  It may take years, but the hunt is more fun than the kill.  Just buying it is no fun...

Some people take all their pride from ownership and the affirmation of others in regard to their ownership.  They have no desire to do work.

Agreed.  This is it exactly.

Time to move along.
