Hi all,
Just wondering what everyone that has a cocktail cabinet thinks is a good size. I mean height width depth. For example you might have a cocktail cab and think that it's a tad too high or low, would you have made it a little lower?
I'm just about to start my build on the cabinet and thought I'd get some feedback from people who have been there before. I'm looking for basic measurements, eg the side panels and top.
Thanks in advance
John

Find a chair, or a pair of chairs that you are going to play this on. Sit in it. Imagine yourself with enough leg room to be comfortable. Then imagine the control panel slightly above your bent knees. Your arms shouldn't stretch out too far, and you shouldn't have to lean far to make out the image on the screen.
For the screen: Decide if you are going to use LCD or if you are going to use a CRT. For a CRT, you won't have much choice but based on availability and your price range.
For LCD, you can pick apart all manner of specs. The important thing to note is the viewing angle. Even more important, the horizontal and vertical viewing angles (respective of the parallel to ground when on a desk) are not usually the same. ie, you won't have a perfect cone of visibility from all angles.
So, get a chair, a fight stick, a PC and mount your LCD parallel to the ground until you find the best nexus of variables.
My fav cocktail is the joust cocktail. Look it up if you haven't!

I've seen this. In fact this is all I keep seeing when I look for cabinet plans. It's as if this is the only cab in the world, hehe. I'm actually after something more retro, modern.

prob gonna have to design then......that is the standard....I know it's not pretty...lol

What's it gonna be?
More retro or modern? Those tend to be pretty mutually exclusive.

You're right slippyblade, I wasn't thinking. Modern look is what I'm after, and preferably something that will be made from one sheet of 1200mm x 2400mm. If anyone has any plans for something modern, even if it has to be made from 2 sheets, the modern look is more important than the amount of wood.

Here's a neat design from one of our own.

That is awesome. I would build the bottom one. I went through the whole thread hoping I'd find some plans for it. Are you sharing plans for these?
-
Not mine, that is one of Ond's designs.
-
Does anyone have any plans for those?

Could try PMing Ond and see if he has any formal plans made up yet or if it is still in the design phase. He's usually pretty willing to share what he has.
