I'm using a WICO trackball that I have connected to an Optipac. The problem is, any time I move it up or down, it goes diagonal instead. If I try going up, it goes up and left. If I try going down, it goes down and right. I gave it a good cleaning, and my wires aren't crossed. Is this fixable, or do I need to purchase a new trackball unit? Thank you in advance.

Take the ball out, hook the thing up and try spinning the mechs with your finger so that you are guaranteed to only by activating a single axis at a time.

I did that just now, and both the x and y axis work fantastically. Which makes this even more puzzling.

Get a level on there and see if maybe the whole assembly is slightly crooked in the mounting. If the axis are working without the ball then obviously the ball is working both axis on its own, only thing I can think of that would do that is if the mounting is off level.

Sounds like the trackball is mounted at a 45° angle to the monitor.

Along that line of thinking, is it mounted in a Marble Madness cabinet?
MM had the two axes at +45 and -45 degrees relative to the screen, instead of one being parallel and the other being perpendicular.

It's not mounted yet. I wanted to test it out first. Perhaps I should have just gone with the new trackball instead!
And now I figured out the problem. I didn't have it turned the right way. I feel like a moron.

You're welcome.
