I know you guys love actual "build threads" where daily/weekly (monthly?) progress can be seen. But I never thought my first build would be good enough to share... I am also just too damn lazy to take pictures as I go. :dizzy:
I started working on the cab about a month ago when the wife and baby were out of town for a couple weeks. I just "finished" last night.
Lots of research (buy the book!), lots of orders (and reorders) to vendors on the forum and lots of trips to Home Depot / Lowes for those "ah ha" moments.
So without further ado:

The members (knowingly or not) and vendors that helped make this happen are countless... but I have to make sure I thank: jarrett, tk289, Lucian045 & macattack. Without these guys, it really wouldn't have happened.
It's far from perfect and there's still a LOT to do - but I'm really happy where I am.
If there are any questions - I'll be more then happy to try and answer them.

This looks absolutely amazing! Did you happen to sketch out the dimensions used? This looks like a great way to have a very versatile 4 player layout, but somehow doesn't look too congested. It's a great design! I'd be curious to know how the 4-way joystick plays over the P1 buttons and next to the spinner. I'd really love to use this design, so thanks for posting good pictures of the 4 player setup. This looks very, very sharp.

Very nice work. The back of your cabinet looks as good as the front. I like how you did your speakers as well. :applaud:
-
Damn, I'm using a modified version of that artwork for my build as well, way to steal my thunder!! ;)
But, seriously, nice build. I like the way you incorporated the "valley" into the front-bottom of the base. Overall very tight. I might have to "borrow" some ideas from you because I'm thinking of doing a shooter pedestal if I ever get my current cab done.

That's an awesome job. Beautiful design, layout, etc. :applaud:

Thanks so much. I did have plans to go off of for most of it which came from user jarrett. I actually put together a model out of paper before I started just so I could wrap my head around it all. I've messed around with the 4way and spinner - not too bad at all. Now, 12 hours into a kill screen run it might be uncomfortable, but admittedly, I don't use either one very often.

Aaaaacutally... those are holes for two 200mm fans (!!!). I had a bit of concern over the CPU being in such tight quarters, I probably went a tad overboard. :)

Thanks - yes. I have to again give credit to jarrett for the artwork. I borrowed myself, so I'm sure you can borrow as well!

Thanks!

Brilliant design on the front.
P3 & 4 joysticks are oriented properly.
Wow, that's impressive for a first build.
-
That is really F-ing cool, great job man. :applaud: :applaud:

I'm using the same CP top on my Flynn build, heavily modified of course. I'm interested in seeing the inside of the CP and the CP box. It's strange seeing joystick bolts, I'm curious why you didn't under mount them?
Overall the whole package looks good. Loving this art in a full blown cab/pedestal. :applaud:

First build. :(
I considered going back and using T Nuts - but that means taking everything apart, buying new artwork, etc. I can live with it for now. I bought black carriage bolts to maybe lessen the effect, but... well... we'll see.

We'll get there. As I mentioned - still LOTS to do. :)

Ain't nothin' wrong with carriage bolts showing - looks more authentic that way.
-
Sweet build. :applaud:
I like the carriage bolts, too. I remember them being on a lot of cabs growing up.
-
Oh! Nothing wrong with the bolts. It's a classic thing. I love it. Just interested in why that was the path taken. It's the only Aircraft Carrier I've seen (and I've seen a few now!) that wasn't under mounted.
:)

I kinda thought the same thing.

Oh my god. It DOES look like an aircraft carrier! :laugh2:
-
I know right!
I put a picture up of one early in my build thread. So awesome. ;)
-
Yeah, that shape has affectionately been called an aircraft carrier for a long time. I think I first heard Goz use it.
-
The aircraft carrier is my favorite 4 player design. It's what I'm gonna use on my pedestal.

And how!

Can you post the CP plans, template or anything? I love the look and wouldn't mind "borrowing".... :applaud:

I got one question... you're awesome. First build, done in only one month, without any of the usual newbie mistakes and the cab looks amazingly perfect in layout, design and artwork.
