I am new to the forum and to arcade games all together. I acquired a Killer Instinct cabinet that was changed to Marvel vs. Capcom. The game starts but doesn't make any sounds and white patterns appear on the screen. I adjusted the video settings and it just changes how the patterns look. I have removed the power supply and it is functioning properly. What else could it possibly be? I assume the board directly below the monitor (not sure what it is called) may be fried because it was not secured and setting outside of the brackets when I opened it. Thanks for your help.

Sounds like a loose fit on the boards and not an issue with the monitor. The CPS 2 (blue box or green box that houses the game's circuit board or PCB) sometimes gets a loose connection when the arcade is moved around.
Unplug the power, remove the Jamma connector, remove the clips on the side of the unit and the game should open up (It's two halves. The A board and the B board). Reseat it, put the clips back and plug in the Jamma connector.

boards could have suicided?
-
Yeah. Thought of that too but he says the game starts.
-
The game starts as well as the marque lights but does not have sound. I will follow your instructions and report. thanks
-
Thank you!!! It is working, but there is a big issue. Please see attachment and please let me know what I need to do next.

pop the plastic off green or blue board and reseat the ROMs

Do you suggest pulling them all out and cleaning them? I found a brittle "leg" and it actually broke off. I pulled all of the ones labeled "Capcom" and sprayed them with contact cleaner and gave them a brushing. Do you suggest doing that to all of them? Could that leg be the reason for this issue? Thanks for your help.

yes. Do you know which ROM has the broken leg? You can always get a replacement ROM from hobbyroms.com or if you know anyone who has a rom burner, they can make you a replacement one as well.

Yes it says Capcom 04B on it. However, I got the game going so it looks good except that some colors are not showing. For example, when fighting as Hulk, he looks black not green.
-
Has anyone else had this issue with certain colors not displaying?
-
go into test mode / service mode and check the colors there. Monitor may need adjusting.
-
I got into the settings and this is what it displayed for colors and wouldn't let change it...
-
looks like an issue with the green to me, but Im no monitor expert. Post a thread in the monitor section , grant and others are great at this kind of thing.
-
Seeing as you messed with the monitor settings during your initial problem, you probably have the colors way off. It's usually best to start with the color settings all midway then work from there.
It is possible to fix the broken ic leg. I have to do it often on old games like galaga where the ic legs seem to break by looking at them. You can use one of the axial leads from an 1/8 watt resistor and solder it on the shoulder of the ic where the leg broke off.

How do I adjust the colors? I hate to sound dumb, but I am unable to get into the settings to change any of them. It only says I can exit and I tried every combination of buttons to try and adjust them but it doesn't allow me to.

adjust on the monitor itself. Did you post this in the monitor section?

Thanks all... I got it going. Some soldering, some adjustments and no it is guns blazing. Now, I am planning on painting it and getting some cool Marvel stickers to place on the side of it. Right now it only has a mediocre (at best) black paint job on it. This has been fun and thanks again for all of the posts.

lets see some pix of it looking right. :applaud:
