This is driving me nuts.
I have a dell lcd in vertical position in my bartop. In windows 7, i rotated the screen 270 degrees so that everything is in portrait mode.
When i run commandline Mame, the display wont show..almost like a focus issue.
If i put the screen position back to normal in windows, and change the settings in mame to make games vertical, everything works. Problem is i cant figure out how to make the front end to display vertically on its own, so i need the screen to be vertical all the time.
Is this my monitor creating focus issues?

I can't speak to your issue specifically but I have had oddball issues with different video cards. I have used add in cards on vertical machines which cleared the issue right up.

yeah...I just switched the front end to Mala. I was using 3darcade and couldn't figure it out.
Everything works now with Mala..cool font end!

Yeah, to me Mala seems the easiest for verticals.
I don't believe that 3d arcade handles vertical but I may be wrong. I think 3d arcade is a cool front end and I'd like to use it sometime but the setup seems like a lot.
I gotta say though, I met the guy who made 3d arcade once at the Funspot in NH. He's very dedicated to his work. He was there all day measureing and mapping out a bunch of cabinets.

Yes I had problems with an ATi card with mine in vertical. I bought a nvidia and it fixed my problems.

I had issues with multiple versions of mame in Linux with the desktop rotated on any card that wasn't somewhat recent.
I wanted to use a p3 mb with onboard graphics for simplicities sake.
Yeah, I learned what not to do to go vertical. Lol.
Wound up keeping the display as landscape and just rotated my front end and Mame and everything works perfectly.
