Title: Can you power 12V Arcade buttons from a PC ?
Post by: mike boss on May 22, 2014, 08:22:51 am
I'll soon be working on my next project, a Nintendo Punch-Out! themed bartop.
I'm thinking about trying to use (for the 1st time) LED buttons.
My local seller has 12v buttons. Can I power these from a PC ?

yeah, just tap the 12v from a hard drive molex connector.

So I could buy perhaps some form of splitter of eBay perhaps ?
One connection to the HDD and the other to the buttons.
Then just use the yellow (12v) & black (ground) to power them ?

Cool, thanks.
I'll look thru my box of stuff tonight (or order off eBay).

or you could just split the yellow and black, solder a set of wires to it.  Connect these wires to a distribution block and go from there.  Many options

Sweet, thanks all.
Not sure if my newest project will be PC based, or XBOX based.
None the less I wanna use the LED buttons (12V).

the first XBOX's hard drive used a molex connector for power, just tap the 12v rail as described above.
