Title: What's the cheapest way to get some gun games running ?
Post by: jimmer on May 17, 2014, 09:43:33 am

I used to play Point Blank on Play Station, also Time Crisis to a lesser degree.

Do I just buy myself a CRT, PS1 and build them into a cab ?

Wii with a Crossfire and Big Buck Hunter is about as good as it gets and you can do it cheap.

PS1 is plausible and is a good start.  Games are cheap.  It would open options for adding other consoles to the arcade machine as well in the future.

That's a great job WellFedGames,  I'll have to see if I can find some dye now for the guns, would never have thought of that.

25" screen is pretty manageable, 29" screen is damn heavy but might it be worth it?

I haven't searched for the vector art yet, any chance I could get yours please ?

Yeah, I am pleased with how the guns turned out. Having worked with plastic paint and vinyl dye, I'm a believer in the dye for sure.

For art, you can find what I recreated here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,137595.msg1420001.html#msg1420001 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,137595.msg1420001.html#msg1420001), but I also found some NOS art from a vendor online so I didn't have to vector that, which is most of what is on the front of my cab.

I think my screen is right in the middle- 27". I think 25 or 29 would be fine, but the cab size needed for 29 might be prohibitive. (I live in a basement, and the Area 51 cab I converted just barely fit, and the 27" was the right size TV).

I have a PS2 since it plays a few more gun games and is backwards compatible with PS1 games. It's a blast, but it unfortunately doesn't get much play. I don't have a dedicated cabinet for it, but I really like WFG's work.

There's a 32" CRT on the curb a block away with a "FREE!" sign on it.  Only 145 pounds.  Who wants it?

Light guns are expensive to get up and running.

I would go for this option:

I used two oem aimtracks and put them into two groups guns off ebay. Total cost came to around £50 or someyhing. Also can use these with lcd which may reduce costs/effort. Details:
