Title: I'm a dad
Post by: RayB on May 11, 2014, 07:45:27 pm
 :o I'm a father as of May 3rd.  :o

This is the part where I have to sell all my arcade stuff, right?

Solemnly swear to raise it on electro-goth.

Congratulations!.  And yes you will be on hiatus.  Selling depends on how much room you have left over for the massive amounts of baby crap you are about to accumulate

:applaud: Grats, RayB.

No need to sell your arcade stuffs. Now you get to make a mini arcade machine for the little guy/gal.

FTW!  Best advice.   Congrats on the newfound fatherhood!

Congrats!! Don't sale your arcade stuff, but realize it might be a few years before you will have any time for arcades, but it is all worth it.

Congrats!  Unless your arcade stuff was stored in what used to be the "spare room", you'll probably get to keep it :)

Yeah, that happened to me.  Then I just put the pins in the dining room.  Wife loved that one lol.  Got it sorted eventually....

Not really, three houses later and I'm still begging for space in my own damn house.  Fight the good fight Ray!  Enjoy it!!

Your kid might just follow you into this crazy hobby.  We are going on a 2 hour road trip tonight to pick up a cabinet for my youngest.

Congrats on being a father. I'm going to be a father in a couple of months. Wonder how much time free time I'll have.

A non-working Mame'd Midway cabinet.  He has tried to buy an NFL Blitz at the last two arcade auctions but they went over his budget.  We are going to rebuild this one as a father son project.  I'm building a Fix-it-Felix with my daughter as well.  And my oldest son offered to help me out on some artwork for my Tron build.    Having the kids involved makes it so much more rewarding.

I have my first on her way in August.  And my FIF Jr cab is in the nursery waiting for artwork.  Surprisingly my wife is okay with it.

Mine is in August too! What are the odds. I wonder if my kid will be into arcade cabs.

This.  Now that my son's 5 I finally have some time to get back into my hobby.   :applaud:

Can't wait until he's old enough to help!

Congrats RayB!  All the best to you and your family.

That's awesome dude!
I became a dad last year and it is the best.
I wouldn't say you'll HAVE to, or even NEED to sell your stuff.
But it will put it in priority.
That's what I've found anyway.

Sadly I don't think kids will appreciate the nostalgia of the old arcade games like we do...they just won't get it until they start watching some 80s movies or just learn the history like I did..I was born in '79 so i grew up on Atari and later Nintendo but didn't know everything that was going on in the video game world at that time. I had no idea until recently the robots talked in Berzerk.
I don't think I could get my future kid excited about playing a game of Baseball Simulator 1000 like my best friend and I have been doing for the last 20 years. But maybe there will be other games to bond over that he will enjoy....Also don't show him a Wii game...let him start with Pac-Man.  I showed my friend's 4 year old Atari and he had fun with it but didn't like dying too much in Frogger..thought it was too hard.  He had only played a few Ipad games before that and the lack of graphics or sound didn't bother him one bit.

Congrats!

I'm a 3 timer dad.

First you lose the spare room.

Then you can't tear crap apart on the living room floor anymore.

Next the wife says you have to start throwing stuff away...

It only goes downhill from here.  :lol

I'm the other way - in the past two years, my two adult daughters have moved out, so now I've gained plenty of room!

I think I have it the best, no kids. I do have 2 dogs, that was my compromise.

It's an outpatient procedure.  Just go do it one day.... if she ever finds out, tell her a wizard did it.

genetically speaking, Im not sure a ginger man and a full blooded Chinese (Well, Taiwanese) woman can have red haired offspring. That being said, I still agree the world doesnt need more gingers.

Well, I am mostly German and Nordic but have a wee bit of Irish in me, about 5%. Only visible gingerness on me is if I don't shave, I have a small patch of ginger and blonde stubble on my chin. As you know, my wife is full blooded Chinese as well. My oldest son is brown haired like me, but shockingly has a quite a few strands of red hair flowing in his head. Not sure if a the Asian ginger is myth or not, but from what I have seen, it might just be possible.  :scared

oh there will be highlights and "worst case" strawberry brown, but a full on ginger isnt possible. Now, if my imaginary first child has a baby with someone who does have red hair in their genes, its possible.

Also, I obviously meant "cant have red hair" and I cant edit it, cause you quoted it :p

As long as you have no freckle jeans in the family. That stuff can skip a generation.  ;) Otherwise, I think your imaginary baby is pretty safe.
