Title: Anyone know something about hydraulics?
Post by: menace on May 06, 2014, 01:27:47 pm
So I picked up this hydraulic scissor lift (free--woohoo)  And the top O-ring had torn and the oil all leaked out.  Does anyone know how much goes back in or the proper way to fill it?

I would only say to make sure the proper material was used on the replacement O-Ring.  There's a lot of pressure in there, and if it's not the correct type, any oil you do get back in, won't stay there :)

If you can't get the manual by googling the model number call the manufacturer and ask them to email/mail you you one.  Knowing how to fill it isn't as important as putting the right type of oil in it.  I'd also replace all the other o-rings while it's empty.

Yeah my google-foo must be weak--I couldn't find diddly on this thing--my guess is that it was made specifically for this jack and replacement parts would have to be cobbled together from other things.  I did manage to fill it and it will go up and down (although it goes down whether its being manually released or not  :-\)

In true BYOAC fashion I replaced the hydraulics with a 4 ton bottle jack for $9 and it works great now  ;D

Aside--I'm incredulous that I can buy a bottle jack for $9...there has to be more steel/labour etc. in it than $9...just goes to show the effect of overseas labour I guess..
