Title: Mini-PAC question regarding ground and 5v wiring
Post by: markc74 on May 06, 2014, 03:28:50 am
Hi all – I’m hoping Andy (or someone) can help me with a question I have about the Mini-PAC.  I’m specifically using the older model that has a PS/2 keyboard connection.

I’m planning on using swappable controls with the mini-PAC wired to a jamma edge connector. Each swappable control panel will connect via a specially wired jamma connector. The problem I’m having is that I ‘ve ran out of available pins.

Looking at the minipac pinout (http://www.ultimarc.com/Mini-PAC%20Manual1.pdf (http://www.ultimarc.com/Mini-PAC%20Manual1.pdf)) it seems I have three separate 5v connections and four separate ground connections.

So – my question is – can I join all the grounds together onto one pin, likewise can I join all the 5v’s together which would mean five overall less connections needed?  If I did would there be any problems with this? i.e. would I have problems with the trackball and/or spinner if everything uses the same ground and power lines?

Any help would be much appreciated before I start on a massive soldering job!

Yes, no problem with that. You can connect all the 5v together and the 0v together.

Yes, no problem with that. You can connect all the 5v together and the 0v together.

Be sure you don't exceed the current capacity of the remaining wire.
