Title: Mame version
Post by: Marc_ on May 01, 2014, 06:02:51 pm
Good evening all,

Eventually getting around to building my cabinet and sat down to sort out the PC that is going to be used, but the problem is I have loads of ROMs but I dont know what version of Mame they run on.

Is there any way at all to find this out or is it as mundane as checking each version to see?

Also are CHD files Mame version specific?

Thanks

Marc

Use this app to check your roms against your mame dat file. It will tell you which are out of date, and let you update them.

http://www.romvault.com (http://www.romvault.com)

This app is much easier to use than the recommended clrmamelro app. I don't understand it. Whoever built the app needs a lesson in effective communications and gui. It's crazy.

The CHD files have changed between some versions so if your files are old enough, they may not work with the latest version of Mame.

if your CHD's are out of date by only a version or so, you can often just run chdman.exe with "chdman.exe -update <inputfilename>.chd <outputfilename>.chd" command

if it's more than a few versions out, you might be better just downloading a whole new set verified as working.
