Assuming you are talking about this

Not for mame or hyperspin. That is for flight sims.
You want a stick. You could get something like this for less than $10

If you really want a flight stick on your panel, go for it. Do you have pictures of your existing cabinet? What game do you want to play with a flight stick on your arcade control panel?

That is a tall order. Just tackle it one piece at a time.

If you look at that link for the blue tron handle, you'll see the following
Accessories for this item are available, including a Switch Assembly, Graphic Backplates, and in the not too distant future, mounting hardware to adapt it to standard joysticks, etc.
Quantities are currently limted. We'll have another production run made if there is high demand, but with this kind of niche' interest part it's not guaranteed. So be sure to stock up!
I haven't done this, but it seems you'd want something with a hollow shaft so you can feed the wire through. Again I haven't done it. Good luck.

Hard to say. That isn't something I would do, not that you can't though.

Yeah, I put a flightstick on my CP, and I've found that I just about never use it, plus it sticks way up.
Just about any joystick that shows up as a USB game controller will work with mame, though. If it's a flight stick, you'll have a ton of extra "buttons" that represent the hat switches, triggers, etc.
There's not many games that I like that require a flight stick. Might want to run Romlister to get a list of the roms that would use one and see if there's enough there to justify it.

Thats true Ok.. Maybe i should skip it then.
Thanks Guys...

Hello Janet,
Nothing wrong with a trigger stick on a control panel. Dont listen to these naysayers. Base your decisions on what you would prefer playing:
As It really depends on what kind of games you wish to play...
If you want to play Afterburner II, Space Harrier, or any similar analog game... the you want an analog trigger stick for best control. (the joystick you posted pics of last)
http://na.suzohapp.com/amusement_products/joysticks/95-0393-00?SS=ON (http://na.suzohapp.com/amusement_products/joysticks/95-0393-00?SS=ON)
If you want to play Mad Planets, Discs of Tron, Tron (if you modify the grommet or use a diagonals hack), Satans Hollow, Gorf, and many other digital games.. then you want a leafswitch or microswitch trigger stick... such as:
http://na.suzohapp.com/amusement_products/joysticks/50-9975-00?SS=ON (http://na.suzohapp.com/amusement_products/joysticks/50-9975-00?SS=ON)
Some of these guys may try to talk you into one of these multi-function joysticks. While they can do both analog and digital... they are expensive, and they do not do either digital or analog very well.
Any analog joystick for a PC can be used with Mame. They generally are not very strong however... so its best to use a real arcade joystick, rather than a hacked PC controller. (PC stuff is generally made of plastic, and so it bends and breaks easily... where as Arcade controls are mostly made of metal, and are very strong and durable.
If you didnt know:
Analog = A range of values.. such as 1,2,3... 10 ...Such as a gas pedal.
Digital = On / Off ...such as a simple lightswitch or push button.
Analog controls mostly use Pots. They are round in shape (with exception to sliders), and the shaft turns.
Digital Controls mostly use microswitches, or leaf switches.
I personally prefer digital trigger stick for most games... but certain games, such as Afterburner II, really require an analog stick. Analog sticks can also be used for driving games. (Not as nice as a steering wheel... but it can be usable)
Mad Planets, on its own, is well worth the addition of a Trigger stick + spinner.

+1 what everyone said.
Find a flight stick you like and clamp to your CP.
If you do the clamp right, you can add a racing wheel too.

Almost forgot Janet...
Those blue ball top sticks are really nice Rotary Joysticks. They are used in games like Ikari Warriors.. Where you can move the stick to walk.. and twist the stick to aim in a different direction than you are walking.
Id use those for the games that use Rotary controls. If you do not want to.. then re-sell them to someone, or trade for something else. They are valuable, and not always easy to find them..

There's a list of rotary games here (http://newwiki.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?title=Joysticks#Mechanical_Rotary_Joystick_Games_.28LS-30.2C_Happ_Mechanical_Rotary_Sticks.29) along with the needed MAME settings. ;D
