I just finished updating my CHDs to Aaron Giles' (http://www.aarongiles.com) new squished format (supported from .77u2 onward). For those of you wondering, here's a comparison of old vs new.
The new format saves a total of 2628.37megabytes (2.57gigs) !
Unfortunately, ClrMame tells me my Area51 is bad:
wrong chd sha1: area51.chd
[wrong: 8a4d24fd9fac2957c644328437fa086e47c018f2]
[right: 9ea749404c9a5d44f407cdb8803293ec0d61410d]
wrong chd md5: area51.chd

It works with .77u2, but tells me the CHD has a bad checksum.
It's definetly converted to the new format. What could be wrong?

if i were you i would just hold out until the official mame build is out
those errors might be glitches that aren't fixed yet
