Title: Coin box help
Post by: 16bitcatholic on April 03, 2014, 10:52:57 am
I have a coin selector, and as I'm about to wire it up, it gives me the option of normal open and normal close.

I've tried searching for the answer, but cannot find it. My apologies if my search skills are bad (only 4 hours of sleep!).

Which one would I select? It's using tokens and does not require power to my knowledge.

ALWAYS use NO for the switches...coindoor or buttons, or joysticks.

Easy way to remember it...

Ground goes on the pin by itself, and then the other wire goes on the pin closest to that. The 3rd pin is always empty.

It's easier to remember when you understand it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_contacts#Normally_closed_contacts

You want to use the normally open (NO) contact because it closes when the switch is triggered, creating a circuit.

Ground goes on the pin by itself, and then the other wire goes on the pin closest to that. The 3rd pin is always empty.

That depends entirely on the switch in question. The NO contact doesn't always have to be the one closest to the ground.

Its always best to check them first, but I have never seen a switch any other way.

My coin door switches are the other way. They look kinda like this:
