anyone know a good place to get my controls?
Ultimarc looks good, since I have to get the I-pac anyhow, and they only charge

Joystick preferences are personal, I have the "clicky" ones and they work just fine, I also have ultimarc's e-stick and the 4/8 way switching is a very nice feature. Being brit, ultimarc sounds like the way to gofor you--they are close, reasonably priced and provide excellent service.
as far as fighters go, I'm not much to play them but there are lots of guys here tht do so I'll let them indoctrinate you on preferable controls.

so, what are the "clicky" sticks known as? on the ultimarc site, they have "Euro-Stik - Suzo System 500". are these the ones?
thanks for the reply.

The Happs competition, happs super, ultimarc, t,e and j sticks all use microswitches, as does the euro--hence the clicking noise. WICO was the notable supplier of leaf spring joysticks, there are others but I can't think of any right of the top of my head. Microswitch joysticks are less maintenance and usually cheaper than leaf joysticks and provide an audible sound when contact is made--some prefer them for figjhters for that reason.
