Title: Dart board surround/cabinet
Post by: jongunz on March 20, 2014, 10:53:02 am
I had an electronic dartboard in our game room.  It was fun but the bounce outs were a tad too annoying for me so I decided to get a bristle board.  I saw a website that has these cool wooden cabinets or surrounds and figured I could make one myself.  Here's a couple of pictures of what I built.  The website of inspiration was http://www.snypergames.com (http://www.snypergames.com)  the LC-10 cabinet was the one I liked so I sort of copied it but didn't do the light hood because I didn't want wires hanging down the wall.  Instead I just added a shelf under the main cabinet to hold any cases, chalk, sharpeners, flights etc.  Anyway its been a fun project and only took a couple of days to get setup.  I just need to put some polyurethane to cover the ebony stain and then mount it on the wall.  I need a better option for the carpeted backing in the middle, but haven't found anything else.  It's just a floormat I got from Lowes that I cut.  I would like a different color option but haven't found anything yet.

Day 1: Cut wood and fastened together.

Day 2: added dart holders to the left, side molding, and stained

Very nice. This is a project on my todo list as well. For the backing, maybe some pool table felt or something?

How did you get the notches in the wood? Router?

I used a jigsaw to notch out the wood.  I only have a limited supply of power tools.  I also had to take a half inch off the middle of the vertical pieces to get it to sit flush with the top and bottom.  Wish I had a router table, and a table saw.  I do have a nice miter saw though so that helps.

This is a great idea for a smaller project.  I have a dartboard that has been sitting in storage for years and this seems like a fantastic way to get some use out of it.

Finished and hanging in the gameroom!  came out great.  And there is plenty of room between the TV and board not to be a problem.

Tv wires taken care of.  Had to run an outlet behind the tv and cut out two small sections of drywall to run the wire up there.  I have a roku player connected as there is no cable or sattelite wires ran to that room.  Looking to get a slingbox so you can watch any tv channel from upstairs down there via the roku.
