Title: Anyone using a touchscreen in their cabinet?
Post by: menace on March 17, 2014, 08:02:43 am
I recently came across a 20" all in one that will work nice for a build I'm doing but I would really like to use the touchscreen for the interface (just because I want to and haven't done it before)  Is anyone using a touchscreen interface?  what front end are you using?  How is it?  Would you do it again?

I put a touchscreen on my fiancee's bartop. MaLa is the front end, I didnt want the headache of a touch front end, and it goes to show you that just because you have a touchscreen doesnt mean you have to have a touch based front end. . You just missed out on the popcap humble bundle.

Here's Bonnie's Pink Box:

I use a touchscreen for my jukebox with SimpleTouchFE. I would't use one in an arcade cabinet unless I had a specific reason to (like Popcap games).

Dang it! I actually like the Popcap games. I'm going to have to get on the mailing list or something.

Back on topic.

Mine is still a pile of wires but.... my touch screen isn't used to play games. Except for the Popcap stuff  :badmood: I don't particularly care for the touch games. On mine, the bulk of configuration options is handled via touch screen. For example, instead of DIP switches on the board, configuration options is handled via the touch screen. There are other duties handled by the touch screen as well as a simplified keyboard input for basic text entry. Complex programming is handled through external tools (as it should). The FE is customized. Right now it's fugly as hell because I'm focusing on the hardware and I plan on changing out the touch screen anyways because the wife wants it back.
