Ok, this is frustrating me now. :-\
I have the newest version of mamewah, I've made my layout, set up my rom and art directories. Everything looks beautiful. The list of games is happy. I try to start a game and *wham*
run-time error 75: file/path access error
ok, I checked the rom directory & emulator directory - both fine
c:\mame\roms
c:\mame\mame.exe
I tried running the games from the command line - working fine. So downloaded mame .77 and everything still worked. Mame32 also worked.
Really, I am stumped. I've been through the cfg files a ton of times. I have stuzza's guide printed - its great for basic setup but doesn't have many tboubleshooting tips.
What we need is a table that has the error number/messages and possible solutions to those problems. At any rate, anyone have any ideas about thie error 75?

I'm totally guessing here... =)
-Check your rom extension to make sure it's correct.
-Make sure that your paths are correct (sounds like you've done this already)
-Make sure you've got the option turned on to send the rom path to MAME.
-Sounds stupid, but double-check your roms folder to make sure you didn't place the roms accidentally in a different place. (I've done this kind of thing before... :) )
-Try turning on the keep dos box open for your MAME application, it may give you more information.
Good luck. =)

One thing you could try it make sure your \FILES folder & contents are not read-only (sometimes happens when copying from CD).
Does the error happen as soon as you hit '1'?
-
I only get this message when I have it setup as a screensaver. When it tries to load a game/artwork for the screensaver if one or the other is not there, or doesnt work it bombs out with that error.

This definitely sounds like a "read-only" problem. Also check debug.log. Mamewah writes to it everytime a game is launched.

I have fixed this one now :), I think soslo's problem is a different one...

I was about to post a message about the same problem. Whenever I launch a game from Mamewah I get either a runtime 70 or 75 error. If I do a clean install everything works until I reboot then it starts having the errors again. Command-line Mame works fine and all files and folders are unlocked. Debug.log shows whatever game was attempted last (c:\mamewin\mamepp.exe c:\mame\roms\FROGGER). If I turn on the DOS box it will then work until I try to exit a game at which point Mamewah freezes up. I'm running the latest versions of Mame and Mamewah on Win98.
One other thing, By cycling the Dos box option in emu1.cfg between 0,1, and 2 I can get it to work until the next time I reboot at which time I need to cycle through those options again to get it working.

This could be a (known-ish) Win98 issue...are you running '98 soslo?

Is there a work-around for Win98?

Thanks for all of the replies...
rom extension is ZIP
paths are correct (quintuple checked)
send rom path = True
roms are in c:\mame\roms
show dos box = 2 (I also tried = 0, haven't tried = 1 yet)
I need to check the FILES folder to see if it is read only - this sounds like it could be the problem.
I'll check the debug log
The error happens when I hit '1'
The artwork and screensaver works fine. Last night was the first time I actually let mamewah sit there idle long enough for the screen saver to come on (next I'll mess with the sounds)
I am running windows 98

Try setting 'Send ROM Path' to False. That is how I run MAME (you might need to check that your ROM path is set correctly in mame.ini).
I would also suggest set 'Show DOS Box' to 1.
If the problem still exists I am sure it is a Win98 issue. I do not know if this will work but if anyone has this problem try this:
Make a batch file which does something like (substitute your mame path etc.):
c:
cd\mame
mame > temp
exit
Then try running this batch file before MAMEWAH for the first time after boot-up (maybe put in startup)...it might just help - please let me know either way...

ok - I'll try these things one at a time tonight and let you know how it all turns out.
thanks min

First I made sure everything in the FILES directory was not marked READ ONLY (none of it was)
Still not working
Then I set Send Rom Path = False
Still error 75
Then Show DOS Box = 1
Still error 75
Soooooo....
I backup up my layouts, wiped out the mamewah directory, re-installed the newest version with the update (.962), yadda yadda, copied my old layouts back in.
Perfect. Mamewah runs like a dream. I also tossed in the sample sounds - very cool touch min. Now I'll work on some custom ones ;D
Sorry we didn't find out what caused the problem. It sucks to have to say re-install. At least it wasn't the layouts...

Well glad it now works ok :)

I am having the same problem, only mine happens when I try and generate a Games List. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and it still isn't working. I am using XP by the way.
Has anyone had any luck fixing this issue?
Thanks for any help and stuff.

I haven't heard of the problem under XP...did you check for read only files in the \MAMEWAH\FILES folder?
As as last resort try deleting the contents of the above folder and re-configure - sorry, I really do not know the cause of the problem in this case :(
