Title: u5000 no video after new caps *FIXED*
Post by: lilshawn on March 14, 2014, 04:18:40 pm
it's friday... i'm sick, i'm tired, and i just want this damn thing gone.

Unit fired up in the shop...had bleeding colors, jailbars, dark on one side. the usual for an old monitor.

changed out all the electrolytic caps on the neckboard and a bulk of them on the deflection board. c725, 107, 305, 310, 304, 729, 616, 607, 613, 616, 712 probably a bunch more, just what i have written down here. basically anything high voltage or over 10uf

pop it back in the cabinet...no video

unit set up for 15k...i have high voltage (158 @ tp203). no raster if i turn up the screen on the flyback. got heater in the neck.

When i pull the power plug, the tube flashes a bit. (not normal white flashover, but strange colored flashover.

anything before i "friday" this thing into the parking lot?

EDIT:

found bad wire connection to user control panel. wiggling the connector caused the picture to come on and cut off (brightness or contrast)

resoldered both sets of pins and seems good now.  begone u5000!

so. many. bodges.  ;D

this chassis must have had no less than 5 separate bodges applied to it.
