Post by: JamesS on December 02, 2003, 03:28:34 pm
Those Joysticks and buttons I see for sell on Ebay all the time, are they any count at all?

Not sure what you are asking.

How many are in the auction?  It should say.

What are they worth?  I've seen new for around $9 for sticks and around $1.15 for buttons (www.therealbobroberts.com).  Used on E-bay should be less than that.

Are they any good?  Generally, they're good quality used arcade parts, and generally a mixture of Gems and Junk.

Are they worth bidding on?  Depends on you and finances.  If you can get 2 joysticks and 30 buttons for $15, yes, it's a lot less than a new set would run.  If you want everything to be spotless for a cab that will be the centerpiece of your gameroom, then probably new is better.

Or did I miss your question entirely?

Or is it better to just get the buttons and sticks from Happcontrols.  Sorry new to all of this.  And I want to do it right.

Auction 1 is a Happ Universal joystick, currently $9.99, plus $7 shipping which www.therealbobroberts.com sells for $12.50.

Auction 2 is two joysticks, probably Happ Competitions, probably 10 buttons, and 2 Start buttons for $38.99.  From bob, this would be $49.20.

Auction 2 is a better deal than Auction 1 IMHO.  In all cases, you're usually better off with www.therealbobroberts.com than directly with Happ Controls.

Regarding E-bay, you have to balance a good price, against the possibility that the ad is an outright lie, and   you might never get your stuff.

These were both auctions for new items.  The more interesting ones are the lot of 40 used item ones for $5-$15.

Thanks for theRealBobRoberts.com website.  That is where I will probably buy most of my parts.

So much cheaper than happcontrols.

I appreciate it.

Also, I see something listed as a .187 cherry microswitch there.  Are these what everyone is calling a disconnect?

Try http://groovygamegear.com as another source for buttons, sticks, and an interface.

No the cherry microswitch is this:

It will come with the buttons, and 4 will come with each joystick.

The 0.187 Quick Disconnects are these:

http://www.dameon.net/BBBB/25qds.jpg

(0.25 inch shown) and are used to attach the wires to the switches above.  You will need 2 QD's per swithch and they go to the NO (Normally Open) and GND or Common terminals.  The NC (Normally closed) terminal is left unconnected.

Doh, now I feel like an idiot.

My brother is going to be doing most of the wiring, and I bet he knows what they are.  And now that I see them, I do know what they are.

I can not wait to get started on this.  Of course, money is tight until after Christmas, but my wife is getting hooked on Frogger =^).  And she loves Ms. Pacman.
