That [guy] is still releasing that thing?  What supposed innovations does this version have?

I installed Version 3 recently.  Light gun support is still a joke and the menus lock up if you plug in a mouse.  His categorizations of games defy all reason.  It's still pretty and everything but yeesh.

Supposedly, there is a dramatic speed up from 4 to 6.  I've read from 5 to 6, the speed up is not as dramatic.  Supposedly, the games are not locked so a person can have a "custom" set.  A newer version of MAME is supported as well.

Yeah, I just tried it and it seems to work OK.  But I'm new to it so it's the first version I installed.  So far I haven't found any issues.

Nice censorship.  Spend some time trying to follow his multiple personalities on his forum and get back to me.

I finally got around to installing it.

It might be the late hour, but part of me thinks it is a tish faster.

That is non standard unit of measurement though.  It was an adventure installing it though.  I had to trim some stuff out to get it to fit.  Looking forward to comparing to coinops4 with a fresh set of eyes.

I put lite on one of my spare xboxs and I just finished uploading full onto another.   I'm honestly more impressed with C06 lite than full.  I was hoping full would add some of the PGM games he was teasing us with like The Gladiators and SVG but they weren't part of the release.  Oh well.

I was wondering what the difference was between lite and full.  I asked in the forums over there an no one has replied.  Can you please explain what they are.  Thanks in advance!

IIRC, Lite will fit onto a stock Xbox HD if you blow away everything else on it.  I believe the previews are just screenshots and not movies, and it's a limited selection of games (though still hundreds).

Full requires a larger HD, has animations, and more games.

I gave up on keeping up with it, to be honest.  The guy behind it is quirky and seems to be continuously updating it.  I'm not convinced that he's actually improved/changed the emulation any, but the Visionary menus are kind of cute.

It's a fun way to dust off an Xbox, but I think you're better off going with a PC for anything serious.

yeah, I'm new to the community over there and the guy behind it, this BP is definitely "unique".  Sometimes I wonder if he's not from the US, because sometimes its like there's a massive breakdown in translation...at least that's what I'm wondering!  LOL.

pbj has it correct - CoinOp6 Lite is a smaller version that is intended to fit on a stock xbox HD.  Although I've never been able to achieve that on any of his "Lite" releases.  All my xboxes are softmodded with XBMC as a dashboard.  I guess since XBMC is installed it takes up that little extra space that won't allow the "Lite" versions to fit.  It's an easy fix, and usually you just have to remove a couple games or preview movie files.  There is a couple tutorials on his forum that explain this in detail.

Or the simplier way of saying things Lite = less games.

The previews are movies though.

I personally feel like the FULL versions which have like 3000+ games are just overwhelming.  I think the LITE versions usually have 90% of the games I'm interested in.

I don't think I would bother at this point.  Newegg had a passively cooled mb combo on sale last week for a mere 35 bucks.  When you can get a dual core 1 ghz machine put together for about the price of a used xbox... it might be time to retire the xbox.

It's rather unfortunate that homebrew hasn't developed further on the 360s.  The emulators are out there, but the front ends are lacking.  The increased horsepower combined with HDMI, wireless controllers/power management, HD filters, etc really make it a more compelling platform.  Plus you'd get all the Xbox Live Arcade stuff and ability to play HD porn and such.

Frankly, it's still pretty amazing what you can do to/with an original Xbox with a simple mod, but it's getting a little creaky.

IDK. Howard...I think the process to softmod and the fact that you can get the whole package in a single download certainly makes CoinOPs/Visionary very appealing.  You install it and your done.  There is no real configuration needed.  I spent more time learning how to do a hard drive swap on my xbox than I did doing a softmod and putting this software on.  That's the part for me at least, that made it appealing.  That and I had an xbox already and I've found 5 more locally just on CL and at Goodwill and have never paid more than $20 for one.  They've made great gifts to friends and family who aren't able to do this kind of stuff.

I'm clearly in the minority, but I've never been able to really get MAME working and not spending a ton of time on it.  This was easy in comparison to me.

But...like pbj points out.  If I could have a nice front end and pull this off on a xbox 360.  OMG I would be all over it.   Being able to go out HDMI or VGA natively and the wireless (better) 360 controllers alone would be killer to have.

Delusional29: I confirmed for you, Coinops 6 Lite is 500 games.

Here's a tutorial on how to do the install on a stock xbox, if you need the help (not my video) -

Well there's no real configuration needed, but I consider that a minus, not a plus.  It's whatever games this guy likes, running whatever version of an emulator/whatever they can get to work on the puny xbox.  I've always considered coinops a making lemonade out of lemons deal and not something you would intentionally build a rig out of.

It was a neat adventure.  There is a time and a place for everything.  I'm content to say I did it once, twice actually.  I'd like to do the full Visionary install, but that will be awhile because I have to find another xbox.

The lite version was a bit tedious as some of the games didn't launch.  I don't know why since lite was only supposed to have games that worked.

Other games took to long to launch.

As I said in another thread, I am over having 8000 games that might work.  I'd rather have 10 that do work.

I'm with you on the 8000+  games.  I just want the ones I actually enjoy.

Weird that you are having problems with Lite.  Everything I've tried has worked.  Any game in particular?  I could check on my end for you.

The metal slugs didn't work.  Which was a bummer, because the nephews liked those.

Weird...just tried them on mine...stock xbox & HD, only C06 Lite on it.  Worked fine.

Did you install over an older version?  Wonder if that might be the trouble.  I blew off my old version and started with a fresh install.

I know when I added some games and removed others, I got a little over zealous and deleted a file necessary for MVS games.  It's in the ROM folder and is neogeo.zip  might want to check if that file is there?

Best I can do to help I'm afraid

Thanks for checking.  I don't have them to fix anyhow.

I just put Coinops6 on my xbox and it's great; the interface is a bit slow but the amount of games is quite amazing and they all work right off the bat.  I prefer the menus system on Visionary more though and can't wait for Visionary 4 to get released.

I have my xbox hooked up to my NEC XM29 and it looks so good.  Next up is to do some pad hacks.

How big is it now?

CO5 was 49gb.

I cannot see myself downloading that again in the near future.
