When my landlord called to say I haven't paid the rent since December 2nd! :o
I got a loan around that time and all my bank account details changed, including my auto payment for the rent. Luckily I can back pay it straight up. Not feeling quite so smug now though :duckhunt

Impressive. There's a notice taped to our day if we are 7 minutes late. Can't imagine 3 months!

Yeah I was gonna say man, most landlords would have you in court by now. Glad you got it straightened out though.

Luckily for me, it's a less conventional arrangement. We used to live together, but then she (yes, I should have said landLADY) got married and moved out, and I decided I could just rent the whole place out. There's not even a lease, or a bond. Yes, in a conventional setup, they certainly would have been telling me about it a day after I had forgotten...

Why don't you just buy a house?

I thought you were going to tell us you invested all your savings into Bitcoins.... >:D

We were renting a townhouse that got foreclosed on. As soon as we got a letter from the new owner (a bank) we quit sending the property manager rent checks. Set it aside in savings, just in case, but we saved about 5 grand and never heard a word about it. Then got paid $2,500 to move across the street. Hired movers for all the furniture. Yeah, that was a pretty sweet spring. (pretty sure that property manager just stole that $3,000 we had sent them while it was all in limbo but meh)
Years ago, I got free rent in exchange for picking up trash and cleaning the complex pool. Because I had been appointed pool king, it meant I got to throw a padlock on the gate promptly at dark and ended all those damn midnight "WOOOOOO!" parties. The kids all hated me, those with jobs loved me. Same deal there, too. Changed property management companies, free rent deal evaporated, but we were in limbo for another 2-3 months before they figured it all out and started charging us again. Socked away about $4,000 on that deal.

I hate pretty much every house anyone designs. If I can save enough, I'd like to build my own. Sure, the instant it's finished it will probably be worth LESS than when I started it would be so 'unique', but then I'd plan to own it until I die anyway. For now, I rent...

A slum lord that rents... That doesn't pay rent... That's rich...
