Title: Monitor Repair Tools/advice Help needed from the big guns :)
Post by: epicfatigue on February 25, 2014, 08:01:09 pm
Hello everyone,

Soo first off the bat im going to get this dumb question out of the way.

I have decided my passion for arcade is so large, that i have to learn how to repair monitors and i am building a test bench and getting down and dirty.

Now i unserstand alot of monitors require an isolation transformer. Now the question i have is since i live in Australia, i require a stepdown anyways. Now for my test bench using a stepdown 240/110 on its own just to drive the monitor should be consitered a isolation transformer right? providing that i dont have anything connected to it other then the monitor it should be isolated from the rest of the unit???
Answered my own question, and its just as i thought it would be :) for all that need to know and be sure like i didhttp://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=92042 (http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=92042)

Next question is i am currently building some things for testing, a series lightbulb seems to be the common thing that most people have on their test bench so i will be putting this into my kit.

I have a decent Var power supply (DC), as well as a arcade power supply, and Isolation transformer

My scope died on me so i am looking to move into the fun world of digital scopes and this appears to be a good one.
So i pruchased a Owon SDS7102

I also got a Atlas ESR Plus (ESR70) - Capacitor Analyser &  Atlas DCA - Semiconductor Analyser from http://www.peakelec.co.uk/acatalog/jz_instruments.html (http://www.peakelec.co.uk/acatalog/jz_instruments.html)

Could anyone else point me into some good equipment that will be useful?

Thanks guys really want to learn and i am looking for online courses as the age of attending CRT ones are well and truely gone thanks all!

dont know if admin mind me suggesting this (if dislike, let me know please)... i would suggest asking at the JAMMA+ forums in the technical area sub forum, as there are many monitor repairers present there.
