Title: GP-Wiz 40 and Game Controller Order Help
Post by: spike32 on February 23, 2014, 12:09:47 am
Hello,

I have the GP-Wiz 40 and when I plug in an xbox controller or n64 controller etc, it makes the gp-wiz players 3 and 4 for some reason, and makes the controllers id 1 and 2. I am on windows xp, and the preferred device in game controllers is set to the gp-40, so I don't know what I can try here. The reason I want to plug both in, is for 4 player games, because I don't have enough room to make the CP 4 players.

Thanks.

It all comes down to the USB vendor and product ID's.  That is how Windows (and DInput) enumerates the joysticks.  Some emulators will acknowledge the old "joy ID" assignments, and you can manually remap them using http://www.wingmanteam.com/latest_software/gadgets.htm#JoyIDs_Utility: (http://www.wingmanteam.com/latest_software/gadgets.htm#JoyIDs_Utility:)

However, if the emulator uses DInput (like MAME), then it most likely will ignore these mappings/ID's.  If it's MAME, then look for Dr Venture's Controller Remap tool on the forums here.  It will dynamically re-write your MAME config based on what controllers are plugged in at the time, so you can retain your settings.  If it's any other emulator that relies on DInput, then there is no simple solution.
