I was testing my newest cab today and found some odd behavior. First, system specs:
Mamewah
Mame: Analog+
IPAC2
When playing 2 player Joust, the game reset itself twice about 10 minutes into the game (between waves 5 and 7)
Although, it happened during different waves and we made it to wave 8 or so without it happening...
I haven't been able to recreate the problem, but I don't know why this would happen.
Is there some sort of key sequence with mame, mamewah, or IPAC that resets the game?
When it happened, the screen exited quickly and I could catch a glimpse of Mamewah telling me that it was resetting Joust.
Is there an key sequence for reset in mame?
Any other ideas here?

So did it reset the game within MAME, or actually quit the game (& MAME) and restart it?
It sounds like it quit and then restart from what you said. Try running the game from a commandline and see if the same happens - that would rule out MAMEWAH at least. I cannot see a reason why MW would make a game quit.
FWIW I have played some games on various (3-4) systems and I have found many just quit for no apparent reason after a random amount of time. I have ClrMAMEPro'd roms and these games are not 'preliminary', plus this has occurred on both Athlon & P4 systems. So I have no idea what the problem is (I keep meaning to post here & ask!). But if you are suffering the same, it could be that your in-game button pressing continues just a tad after the game has quit, causing MW to re-launch the game. That *could* explain it. As I said, try it from a commandline - that will tell you for sure...

Thanks minwah (great FE btw). I don't know if it is mamewah causing the problem...I think it has to do with the IPAC functionality, but the odd part is that we weren't pressing the start buttons either time...we were right in the middle of some joust waves and *wham* mamewah says it is resetting the game. Totally odd. I'll let you guys know if it happens again.

MAMEWAH would never say it is resetting a game...but it if probably just saying 'Loading Joust' or whatever.
I expect what is happening is that hitting Ctrl or Alt is launching the game, as these are the primary 'fire' buttons in-game, and will launch a game from MW using Extra Options #1 or #2 (even if the extra options is nothing).
I'd still try Joust from a commandline, and if you really think it is the IPAC, disconnect it and play with keys for a while...

ok - thanks min!
