Title: Neo-Geo credit issues [SOLVED]
Post by: Slippyblade on February 17, 2014, 12:20:20 pm
Well, my Neo-Geo bartop is pretty much done.  It's playable, looks good, etc...  During the setup of MAME however I noticed an odd behavior.  With normal arcade games, a '5' registers 1 credit and a '6' registers 1 credit.  That's player 1 coin and player 2 coin.  Neo-Geo uses the Right Player/Left Player layout and behaves differently.  A '5' registers 1 generic credit and a '6' registers TWO credits...  Not Right Player/Left Player like one would expect it to behave.

I am using MAME 149 with hi-score/no-nag however I tested with a vanilla copy of MAME 149 and saw the same behavior.  Any ideas?

Well, that's interesting.  After digging around and not really finding an answer I just started playing around with random settings.  Turns out that the NeoGeo bios defaults to the "Europe MVS v2" settings which behaves like I described.  Setting it to "US MVS(v.1)" shows left/right credit counts and recognizes the left/right coin buttons, start, etc like one would expect.  I guess Neo-Geo in Europe behaved more like a regular arcade machine with a single credit pool and P1/P2 start buttons.

Now to see if I can set it to the correct BIOS in all games instead of having to manually change each game.

[UPDATE] Sweet!  Apparently changing the BIOS setting in one Neo-Geo game is a universal change to the Neogeo bios file and effects all Neo-Geo games.

Sweet! How did you change the bios settings?

Sweet! How did you change the bios settings?

Stupidly simple, to be honest.  Open tab menu once the game is running and the sixth menu option is BIOS selection.  And it seems that making the change in one game saves the change for all the Neo-Geo games.
