General Rules:
- One Credit, No Continues.
- Highest score wins.
- No savestates, savestate practices, etc. during the round.
- MAME INP recordings are encouraged but optional.
- A screenshot is required to enter a score (press F12 to save screenshot showing your final score) or take a photo of the game screen.
- If you're a MARP competitor on this title, keep in mind this is just a friendly competition among forum members, so maybe you shouldn't enter. However, if you're a forum member and this is a game you're good at and nobody knows about it, this is your time to shine!
- Even if you don't have a competitive score or if you don't *think* that you have a competitive score, please post it anyway to keep the thread fun & to give everybody a good sense of score ranges.
- Please make sure your scores are from games that take place during the competition period (no posting your best score from last year, etc.).
- Use of autofire or other non-standard hacks within MAME or your PC's OS are not allowed. No program or other person or entity of any sort may manipulate your controls during your game. Coaching & back-seat driving is fine as long as the party doesn't directly influence the game or controls.
- If you can beat any of the high scores from the previous competitions, you can submit your score to the BYOAC High Game Scoreboard.

Forgot that I had to create a new competition thread. Hope its its okay.
Anyway I played a few games and reached stage 2. So here is my opening score: 226700
You really need to make good use of your shadow clones. Positioning them so they can attack while you keep a safe distance. You get an extra clone [up to 4] for each red power up you pick up. And if you get hit you loose one.

262,200. Can't quite manage to avoid the stupid truck on Stage 2. But somehow managed to get 240,000 at the end of the first stage. Not quite sure how, maybe time bonus?

Curious why? Doesn't seem that far different from other beatem up platformers that've been picked.

Killed the serpent thing in the desert, then was blown into a futuristic city with rotating lasers and bouncing barrels. LOL this game makes no sense.
Looking at the scores it seems that killing all the enemies in a level is peanuts compared to the end of level bonuses.

I remember playing Strider back in the day and this seems rather lacking in graphics and sound. I played a few games and my high scores was 4600? Must get a lot of points for finishing a round.

This is basically the 'real' sequel to Strider, same main developer even if it was published by Mitchell not Capcom, that's why it's so similar.

I'll also add a table to the start post, to keep track of everybody's scores. Looking at the scores it seems Mr_Numbers made it to stage 5, whereas Lettuce and I are still stuck on stage 4.

Supposedly this is in the latest version of Vision/Visionary for the original Xbox. I've just installed it so I'll have to dig deeper into the lists and see if it's actually there.
All the Mitchell games are really weird, IMO. I don't know if it's issues with the emulation but I always feel like the controls and animations are slightly off. Having never encountered a single one of their titles in the wild this could be how the real deal plays for all I know.
Anyway, I'll try to claim my rightful 5th place this evening. :P

Nope, better try to track down the rom or buy the pcb, which unfortunately is quite rare and thus expensive.
Does anybody know if this game was ever released in a dedicated cabinet? I've tried to find images of the cab, marquee, cpo, side art, whatever, but can't find anything. I really like the Strider cab, so I am curious to how the Osman/Cannon Dancer looks.

Man this game gets freaking impossible! After the forest level with all those f***ing jetpack enemies, you get to a boss, where you can pick the stage to fight him. After finally beating him I thought the level would have been completed. But that is not the case!!! You need to continue on to a part where there are enemies that shoot a continuous never ending stream of bullets directly at you. Oh and you approach these from below :o
Anyway, I found out that you can actually choose the order of the three bosses you face after the dessert part. Here is how: after defeating that scorpion/snake thing in the desert, you get to a point where you are blown up and to the right. At this spot there are actually three parallel paths you can be on. Depending on which one you choose here, and which one you choose after the barrel/laser section, you fight one of three possible bosses. I'll try and find out all possible combinations later this week.

I finally beat the mech boss on stage 5, but then died immediately on stage 6: 2301780. Afterwards I was so curious about stage 6 that I replayed using multiple credits (that's why this is my 2nd best score). Its insane, you will have to face all previous bosses, multiple at once, possibly on a steep slope!
My current strategy is to finish the first two stages and the desert serpent without using any bombs or lives. Then I choose the bottom path twice, so the boss order becomes:
1- the woman that keeps trying to throw you (anti gravity stage, 2 power ups)
2- the teleportation guy with the mech (sky stage which has 2 power ups and 2 health items!)
3- the dude with the claws (choose the blue sphere for the sky stage!)
It took along time before I could get past the forest stage (before boss 3). On the forest stage I found a path where I only have to touch the ground at the very end. The key to this are the gravity stones (the ones that you can orbit). There are two of these stones in this level and both have a regular jump stone to the upper right. So jump toward the gravity stone to orbit it, then at about 1 o'clock jump to escape the gravity pull, and use the jump stone. If possible you should continuously be using jump stones and keep on kicking, never stop or you will get shot.
After the wolverine wannabe boss, I just bombed my through to the end of stage boss. This gigantic mech takes 3 bombs to take down, that is if you have that many :) I only had 2.

MARP has a 1 credit clear for this done on Mame 0.99 if you're looking for play techniques...
obviously you need a build from around then to play it tho, because the input format has changed significantly since, and any timing changes will cause playback sync errors too.

Down + Jump = slide
Slide -> Down + jump = throw enemy
Jump -> Down + jump = dunk enemy

Also throwing enemies into other groups of enemies is a great way to destroy multiple targets with little risk. Just to throw out some strategy. :)

Nice, you just overtook epetti and Comtek :applaud: If you are already sliding past them tigers, might as well throw one towards the other one :)
Oh and you really should not pick the high path, as you do not want to face that robot in that anti gravity zone (you do know you can jump to break free of the 'washing machine's pull).

Look on the bright side, you just trippled your previous score :D Remember that you have 3 bombs for every life, so 6 in total -> use them!

Managed to slightly increase my score to: 2559980
On the final stage I made it past the start, defeated the stage 2 boss (the burning 'hero') and then for some inexplicable reason died on the stage 1 boss (the circle saw, flame thrower machine man thing). I mean its the easiest boss around, pfff. Anyway this is my final score.
