Title: Help with hiscore saving - some games aren't reading the hi file?
Post by: Tzakiel on February 03, 2014, 09:36:55 am
I'm having a weird problem with hiscore.dat and some games.

I tested Espgaluda II, Deathsmiles, Dodonpachi Dai-fukkatsu, and muchi muchi pork, getting a hi score in each.

Deathsmiles and muchi muchi pork created a .hi file for each, and the games show/read the scores.

Espgaluda II created a .hi file, and if i open that espgal2.hi, I see my initials among the text - but re-launching the game I see no scores saved for my char? I see a listing in hiscore.dat for this game, so I assume it should work? Tried deleting the nvram folder for the game, as well, but no luck.

Dodonpachi dai fukkatsu I don't even see a .hi file, don't think this is supported at all.

More testing:

Not saving:
Espgaluda II - .hi file created, game doesn't show
Dodonpachi dai fukkatsu 1.5 - did not create .hi file
Mushihime sama futari 1.5 - did not create .hi file

Saving:
Deathsmiles
Muchi Muchi Pork
Ketsui
Espgaluda
Ibara
Pink sweets

Just wondering if this is normal, or if I have a broken install.

My understanding is not all games are supported, so it's likely those are not.

This unsupported list looks like it hasn't been updated to the newer hiscore.dat but at least one of your games in on there:
http://www.mameworld.info/highscore/unfin.txt (http://www.mameworld.info/highscore/unfin.txt)

I don't know if there is a more updated unimplemented list.

Another option to hiscore.. if you can launch specific games with their own arguments, you can use the -autosave option, as long as you don't mind it resuming where you left off when it launches

Thanks. I'm in touch with the hiscore.dat author and hoping we can get these when they go back into 153.

Autosave is a great option except I'm using dropbox with friends to sync hiscores folder over the cloud.
