Title: Need For Speed movie to be released in 2014
Post by: BadMouth on February 02, 2014, 11:05:35 am
Will probably suck like most movies based on video games, but I'll watch it anyway for the cool cars.

The trailer summarizes the entire plot, so no reason to go see it for that.....

$66 Million Budget estimated.  I wonder how much of that was on crashing what look like rather expensive motor vehicles,  And Yes I know you can do a lot with special effects and body kits/replicas nowadays but hey lets hope they really did trash a bunch of 500K+ plus motors  ;D  Although what hope the GT has against most of those others, In race conditions it wouldn't have a chance. I think I'll wait for the Bluray release.

You know after the F&F deal where an actor DIES because he thinks he can street race you'd think Hollywood would learn it's lesson and stop making that garbage.

Until the see the words "Cannonball" or "Bandit" in the title I'm not watching anymore of this crap.

I seem to recall reading an article that stated that Paul Walker was racing cars before he got involved in the F&F movies.  And he wasn't even driving the car that he died in.

Just sayin....

If Bandit is required I'm a bit afraid......those were crap too.

Then sir are fightin' words.  The first two Smokey and the Bandit films at least are national treasures.

That, plus what guy doesn't think he can handle his car?  Most guys just can't afford the super cars actors CAN afford to crash in. Real race cars crash a lot.  It's just in a better controlled environment vs. the streets.

+1 Walker was just a passenger and victim.

+1  The Bandit was/is awesome.  It was also the 2nd best movie released in 1977.

We will probably see Need for Speed.  My son plays the game quite a bit and I'm a big fan of Aaron Paul.  I have to agree with BadMouth though that it will probably suck.

I think you guys are missing the point.  These sort of films promote street racing, which shouldn't be condoned in any way.  It doesn't matter that he was driving.  He thought it would be alright to be in a car with someone driving irresponsibly.

Oh and btw if you think you can "handle your car" to the point to where any kind of street racing is ok, you are one of the morons we have to worry about.  Cars ridiculously dangerous death machines that are unfortunately required for modern living.  No matter if you are driving a Ferrari or a Ford Focus you should drive responsibly, within the speed limit and with an air of caution at all times.  In a sanctioned racing environment it's a different story but even then I wouldn't recommend reckless driving.

That's true of the first 3 Fast and Furious movies, everything after that has been focused more on heists and car chases , chases dont equal races. I mean even the race in Fast Five was pretty tame, 4 cop cars on an empty street at 3am and one with the lights and siren on.

Really?  Smokey and the Bandit III?  I see you said the first two, but you can't defend all movies with "Bandit" in them...  :P

Also, I love the first one, the second was good, but not great...  Sorry Howard...

While no, it doesn't condone street racing, just bringing up that Paul Walker actually was into racing/driving for quite some time and raced in actual organized events, not street racing.  Even the stunt driving co-coordinator for the FF series said he was a natural.  Additionally, even the Skyline GT-R he drove in 2 Fast 2 Furious was his personal vehicle.  So I'm not defending street racing (irresponsible) or anything, just saying that he was more than an actor that thought he could drive...

Also, loved the Cannonball movies also, and the first Bandit movie (second was good, not great)...  But you know Speed Zone was envisioned as the 3rd Cannonball movie...  Defend THAT one...  ;)

I like the F&F movies, and Cannonball, and Bandit, and any decent movie with fast cars...  And I don't hold out a lot of hope on this one...  It's just going to be a bunch of spectacular car stunts and that's it...

You HOPE they trash those cars...?  Sir, you make my soul hurt...

Meh, as long as they are aren't super rare I'd also like to see them destroyed.  :lol

At the very least driven like they're owned by someone who isn't afraid of hurting them:

Anyone in LA want early screening tickets? As much I like racing games, this does not look promising. 2 ticket for 2/19 in Burbank, CA. Pm me if you want them.

Better that they are crashed relatively safely in a movie then driven into a tree on a main thoroughfare in real life, That's all I gotta say on that matter.  Hell I only watch Nascar hoping for a nice pile up. Although I prefer that nobody gets seriously hurt/killed when it happens.
