Title: Is there a master list of games that require CHD files?

I just got a huge rom pack for Mame 1.51 but it didn't come with any CHD files, so I am just curious if there is any list of games that will require a CHD file so I can get it in advance.

Download the CHD's and Rollback CHD DATfiles from the link below. You can also use RomVault app to verify/update your roms and CHD's. It's way easier than clrmamepro.

Links lead only to DAT files, not actual roms or CHD's as per forum rules.

THe chd pack for version 0.149 is 154 GBs not including the laserdisk games - so probably easier and more efficient to see what games you want to play that need a chd file and download only those as many of the games are probably ones you'll never use.

If you want to see a list of the games - In Mameui64 it has a sub category for chd games in the folder list so you can just highlight that selection and see all of the CHD games in a list ( in 0.149 it has 615 games showing) Here is a screenshot of MAMEUI with the list open -- Note most of mine show as not working since I have only downloaded a few chd files for the games I wanted to play (ie. gauntlet legends, gauntlet dark legacy, bass fishing, and a few others !)

what exactly do these dat files do? I understand CHD files.
Also, i am going to be using .151 since that is the rom pack i downloaded, is there a .151 dat pack download somewhere?

I'm pretty sure that's what the OP wanted to do, thus the request for a list of games that required CHD's.

Will older CHD's (ones described as say MAME .142 CHD's) not work at all with MAME .151? Or does the later version chd just mean that it is more complete, but an older CHD will work.

Download the chd dat and run it with RomVault. It will let you know. You might have to search for a 151 chd dat as the link I provided only has 152.
