Title: T-Molding question
Post by: Bobby115 on November 30, 2003, 06:05:21 pm
I'm ready to finish off my MAME Cabinet and the last thing outside the cab that needs to be done is the T-Molding.

I have the T-Molding already and was wondering if anyone uses glue with it or just push it in place. Its a tight fit so I was thinking of just putting it on. If the best thing to do is use glue then I will go that route.

What kind of glue can be used?

Thanks

Bobby

Normally a tight fit is all thats required. If its loose then a glue gun with hot glue is best. I would recomend against glueing it unless necessary.

If you don't know about notching to go around corners I suggest you read up on installing t-molding.

Holy cow, this might be my chance to finally help someone a little.  (my first opportunity)

I recently installed some t-molding.  I found that using a rubber mallet worked best for seating the molding, if you dont have a rubber or leather mallet laying around like I did, holding a small chunk of wood agaist the molding and hitting it with the hammer will do the trick.

for notching, rather than buy the expensive tool, I used something that I already have, and likely you do too, a pair of wire cutters (or sidecutters if you call them that, or dikes if you call them that or is is dykes?)  Anyway, as you begin the curve towards the tall part of the T cut out a couple of tiny triangle shaped notches so that the molding can easily follow the curve without binding.  for curves that bend away from the tall part of the T, notches are not necessary.

Im sure this is in a faq someplace, but I couldnt find it the first time I tried to look for it, so I thought Id share some of the experience I had.  Good luck!
