Title: Warlords Paddle Turn Angle [and other questions]?
Post by: dgame on January 30, 2014, 12:09:53 pm
I made two mouse based paddles/spinners to play Warlords and currently they are set to take a half turn (180 degrees) of the knob to move the shield from one end of the castle wall to the other end.

On the real Warlords arcade game how much travel on the paddle knob is required to move the shield from end to end?

Thanks.

EDIT: Title and description update.

I may be wrong because its been a little bit since playing the actual machine.
(It was out of order during my Funspot trip this year)
But those paddles are 270 degrees and I thought it took from one end of the sweep to the other for covering the castle.

Thanks!

In the upright version is the left player (player 1) supposed to be in the lower-right corner with the right player (player 2) in the lower left corner?

I checked the wiring diagrams and it seems that Pot 1 and  Pot 2 go to the same place on the PCB as the cocktail. But is Pot 1 in the left player position on the actual upright control panel?

270deg pots.

UR has P1 lower left, P2 lower right.

My mouse paddles/spinners are buttery smooth in Warlords at 270 degrees. Thanks!

Yesterday I got a Plug it in & Play TV Games Atari 2-Player Paddle Controller with 13 Games by Jakks Pacific.
The Warlords upright arcade version has Player 1 in the lower right position on the screen and it uses the Player 1 (left?) paddle.
This is also how MAME behaves when in upright mode.

With MAME I can put the controls on any side I want.

With Player 1 being on the left side of the control panel which on screen position is correct for the upright version of Warlords?
A) Player 1 always in lower left corner of the screen
B) Player 1 always in lower right corner of the screen

Thanks!

I never even knew that jakks had a paddle plug & play.
I must get it for conveniently playing warlords without setting up my 7800 and cleaning the cart over and over.
I wonder how hard it would be to hack for use with the Stella emulator.

The Jakks Paddles generally got good reviews.  The Paddles are Potentiometer based so they could probably be wired to something like an Ultimarc A-Pac for PC use.

Stella supports a single mouse as two paddles using X-Axis and Button 1 for Paddle 1, and Y-Axis and Button 2 for Paddle 2.
I made my mouse paddles adhere to this convention. Two separate mice paddles, one only moves the X-Axis and the other only moves the Y-Axis. Also works great in MAME.

Google image search for 'mouse spinner' and 'mouse spinner Atari'  for many different takes on mouse paddle/spinner hacks.

270deg pots.

UR has P1 lower left, P2 lower right.

It makes sense that the players would be under their castle just like in the cocktail version. That is how I am going to set it up. Thanks!

Yeah, I'm gonna look into doing that.
I have an old paddle set that I may hack up
