Title: Need some help with DVI and RGB

Hi all,

I'm incorporating a 20" monitor in a jukebox I'm building.
Since it has both RGB and DVI inputs on the back I have a few questions and maybe it could be subjective.

1. What's better RBG or DVI
2. If I convert either of these to HDMI is there any significant loss of quality?
3. Can RGB to HDMI adaptors accept audio signals going into the HDMI inputs or do these adaptors generally work the other way around (i.e hdmi out and split into signal and audio)?

What I'm intending to do is go from the graphics card out (RGB) to HDMI and into a yamaha amplifier (for signal switching). From the amp HDMI out converted to DVI and into the monitor.

I use a yamaha amp on my home system now and with the sale price couldn't pass it up! Besides I can't build and amp myself anywhere near that price.

DVi is digital, as is HDMI. They make adaptors which is basically a pin swap from one connector to another. RGB is analog, so the signal will need to be converted, which in my opinion, is never good. If you are going to convert to HDMI in the end, go DVI-HDMI.

I guess in that case it probably makes sense to swap out the graphics board and update it with something thats got a DVI output. Probably going to make things easier at any rate. And for the price of a board compared to a converter, you're probably looking at the same $ anyway.
Now, just to get these hard drives working together  :banghead:
