My cab has been making whining noise for about a month now. First I thought it is the display on itīs last legs. But today i disconnected the display and whining continued. I have new 12 cm fan on the radeon, disconnected it, still whining. And disconnected cpu fan, still whining :(
IS there any remedy for this type of situation?

soooo... is it the display or the computer?
unplug the display. still?
unplug the computer. still?
where is it coming from? Oh, how i wish i could put my head through my monitor and see what's going on. :-\

Could be the power supply fan. Stick a Q-tip in the back of the power supply fan grille so that the fan can't move and power it up for a few seconds to see if the whine comes back. Make sure to pull it out after you've made your determination.
If it's not the PSU fan, it could be a bad cap somewhere. Are you getting any display weirdness when the machine is on, or issues with no video when you turn it on sometimes?

And I withdraw the quostion. Alas, it WAS the PSU. Itīs fan was jammed. it would not move at all. Changed new corsair 500 wat for it-> no more whining.
Thanx for all the help though :)

Glad you sorted it out. That reminds me that I have to swap out my PSU fan (or PSU altogether) in my 3-player MAME cabinet someday soon. I have access to tons of free parts due to my job, but have been too lazy to dig into it.
