Anyone else going to watch Ron Moore's new show tonight? I've been looking forward to this for a while. Hopefully this is back to Battlestar quality for Ron, not Caprica.

Got my PVR set. I'm not so keen on the premise for the show but am willing to give it a shot.
I thought Caprica had promise. It didn't deliver in the first season, but I thought they could have hit their stride in a second season like many shows have done. Like many shows, I think it was cut down prematurely.
-
Yea, I only made it thru about 4 episodes of Caprica. They posted the first 15 minutes of the premier, definitely looks promising:

Don't you mean the first season or so of Battlestar? Because quite frankly BSG was a hot mess as well. Especially the ending... easily the worst ending in the history of television. It was like something a bible study group full of 10 year olds would come up with.
-
You're way too much of a curmudgeon sometimes man. BSG was one of my all time favorite shows ever, including the ending, and I'm not particularly devout.
-
I tried to like BSG, I really did. The original series was one of my faves in the day, but the reboot... not so much. And not because it was a bad show. But because it was a victim of modern televisions inability to make a show that is a straight genre. BSG wasn't a sci-fi show. It was a drama with sci-fi elements. I mean, everything is like that anymore. Walking Dead is another example, it's not a zombie show, it's a drama that happens to have zombies. I'm so sick of "drama". Hell, even game shows are barely that anymore, they are drama with questions. That's the whole reason "reality TV" is such a big deal, societies over fixation on "drama"...

No I'm not, not at all. You build up these "mysteries" for 4 frikkin seasons and then at the end they aren't explained at all, or at least explained in the most childish, laziest way imaginable. If the show wasn't built that way the ending would have probably been ok, but the whole narrative of the show was about finding answers and in the end they didn't find any.
I can't help it if you are easily entertained man. ;)
-
Well that was disappointing. I see they haven't learned form their past mistakes. If this was a simple 3 part show or a mini series this might work, but you can't build suspense for a whole season that takes place inside a quarantine. Again right from the start they are writing a check they just can't cash.
I'm assuming they intend this show to at least last one season.... no answers they give could possibly make up for stringing us along about this mutagen for a whole year.
-
Is this the show Ron tried to sell the other major networks, and was unable to sell it to them like two years back?
-
IMO it is worth watching. Not sure how they can make it work in the same location for the whole season but there seems to be more things to discover. Lots of the X-files black ooze in the pilot. Take a gander if you can it may be a good series. 4 stars out of 5 so far.
-
Of we are giving arbitrary scores that mean nothing (I call these "danny_galaga's" ;) ) Then it deserves a -2 out of 5 if you ask me.
Yeah most of this crap is lifted straight from the x-files and recent films like contagion... that is a BAD thing. Hell this plot has even been used in video games to death. Resident Evil says hi! I've literally seen all of this before. Honestly I thought it was an hour and when I hit the 11:00 mark and realized it was on for another half hour I was like "ah man!"
I barely managed to sit through the whole thing.
They hired good actors... I guess that's something? I mean if they had anything good to act out we'd have a show on our hands.

Yeah it was. To be frank SyFy is frantic for content atm. In terms of actual science fiction shows, I think they've got defiance, Only Human, and one more season of Warehouse 13. Everything else they've tried has flopped in the past few years. Their channel is mainly wrasslin' and reality shows now.

I guess we agree to differ here. I treat SF as a diversion rather than looking for great acting and scripting. At least it is a relief from reality shows and reality cooking shows. ;D The sets cost a whole lot more than a stove, sink and cutting board.
-
I didn't like it as much as I hoped I would, but I think it has potential and is worth sticking with for the season.
Real shocker that you don't like it, Howard. Your opinion really carries no weight due to the fact that you are miserable and hate everything... Except apparently a 'physical copy' of Ducktales.

What does that have to do with the price of fish?
I'm miserable and hate everyone, including Ducktales, and I liked the first 15 minutes of the show. :lol

Well I just told you it was so boring I couldn't sit through it, so even as a diversion it's a -2. ;) I mean seriously man I've seen that pilot in film form at least a half a dozen times in that past 5 years or so.

No genius, my opinion carries MORE weight because I don't like most stuff. If I did happen to like it the show would have been fantastic. I'm not sure how you get that I'm miserable though. I'm a happy go lucky guy, but that doesn't lower my standards in terms of entertainment.
-
I saw the first two episodes and that's it for me. I like the idea of the base being so huge and all, but it's way too cliche for me at the moment. Maybe if my TV schedule dries up completely. I'd rather spend time on re-watching something good even.
-
Just watched it, Nope not gonna be on my must watch list that's for sure. $100 says it gets canned before we get any resolution. Oh and did the ---Bad words, bad words, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when saint censors you?--- Muzak throughout annoy you as much as me? The last scene was almost comical.
-
On the other hand, Being Human just premiered the other day, and as hokey as that show can be at times, I highly recommend it. It's very unpredictable, but not in a Lost "We've just going to make up random stuff" way. It's one of the few shows that can throw a plot twist at me that I don't see coming.
The special effects are iffy as is the acting, but it doesn't matter because it isn't billed as one of these high brow scifi shows, so it's judged on a different standard.
I'm only super harsh on these big budget spectacles that everybody says are great when in reality they are crap.
-
Being Human, The American remake or the English original? I watched the UK ones. The first season was excellent Second was pretty good, but then it started to slide a bit. I've only watched a couple of episodes of the US version so haven't made any decisions on it yet.
-
The US remake. It's better imho, but I think it has a lot to do with the fact that Boston is a better setting.
The first season of the show is pretty slow but it picks up after that. It's not really anything like what little I've seen on the UK version, they just used the initial situation.
-
The BSL4 depictions are comical.
Household neuroscientist declared, "they're just stringing together buzz words."
When did "syfy" turn into a silly drama channel?

Drama and gore are apparently all anybody watches these days. Have you looked at what's available through Redbox lately?
